Jannik Sinner is set to face Ben Shelton in the ATP Finals group stage in Turin. Sinner, who has already secured his semi-final spot, aims to continue his 28-match indoor winning streak. In contrast, Shelton, despite being eliminated, eyes a chance to become the top-ranked American with a win. Head-to-head, Sinner leads 7-1, having won their last seven matches without dropping a set. Despite Shelton's struggles against top 10 players, the fast indoor conditions may allow him to keep games close. Backing Sinner with over 18.5 total games seems a strong bet.

Sinner has already secured his place in the semi-finals and Shelton is eliminated after going 0-2 in his ATP Finals debut, effectively making this a dead rubber. Nevertheless, both players have something to play for - Sinner will want to extend his incredible winning streak indoors, which currently stands at 28 consecutive matches, while Shelton would overtake Taylor Fritz as the No. 1 ranked American if he could somehow conjure the upset here.

Player
Longest Indoor Winning Streak
John McEnroe47 (1978-87)
Novak Djokovic35 (2012-15)
Roger Federer33 (2004-07)
Ivan Lendl32 (1996-97)
Roger Federer29 (1986-88)
Jannik Sinner28 (2024-25)

Unfortunately for Shelton, that's highly unlikely to happen. He's lost seven straight meetings with Sinner and the Italian won't ease up too much in front of his home fans in Turin. Shelton also has a pretty shocking top 10 record and has gone 2-9 against the elite throughout 2025. His serve is up there with the very best in the game, but he still struggles on return and in lengthy baseline exchanges. In these conditions, Shelton's serve should allow him to hold enough games to push this Over 18.5, but Sinner is almost certainly extending his winning streak at the ATP Finals to eight matches.

Head To Head

Sinner leads 7-1. Shelton won their very first meeting in a deciding set tiebreak at the 2023 Shanghai Masters, but Sinner has been dominant since then, winning the last seven encounters without dropping a single set - including a most-recent 6-3 6-3 triumph at the Paris Masters.

Jannik Sinner Form

Jannik Sinner enters this clash with a remarkable 55-6 record for the season — a testament to his dominance throughout 2025. Incredibly, his only completed loss to a player not named Carlos Alcaraz came against Alexander Bublik on the grass of Halle.

It’s been another incredible year for the Italian. Sinner successfully defended his Australian Open crown before returning from a three-month suspension to capture his first Wimbledon title, defeating Alcaraz in the final.

While the rivalry with Alcaraz has delivered some painful setbacks - including a five-set loss in the French Open final and a four-set defeat at the US Open - Sinner’s consistency and resilience has been impressive.

The 24-year-old has battled through physical setbacks, retiring mid-match in Cincinnati and Shanghai, and visibly struggling with cramp during deep runs in Vienna and Paris. Yet those issues didn’t slow him down - he won both tournaments, arriving in Turin on a 10-match winning streak and once again looking like the man to beat at the ATP Finals, where he is looking to defend his title.

That momentum continued in his opening round-robin match, where he defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-5, 6-1. Sinner was dominant on serve, winning 89% of first-serve points and not facing a single break point in a near-flawless performance. Sinner then confirmed his place in the semi-finals by beating Alexander Zverev for the third time in 17 days, easing past the German 6-4 6-3.

Ben Shelton Form

Shelton comes into this clash with a 40-23 record for the season, reaching a career-high ranking of World No. 6 and earning his first-ever ATP Finals berth.

The explosive American has been a consistent performer on the big stage in 2025, advancing to the Australian Open semi-finals and the Wimbledon quarter-finals, with Sinner ending his run on both occasions.

Shelton’s breakthrough moment came in Toronto, where he seized the opportunity in the absence of Sinner and Alcaraz to claim his maiden Masters 1000 title, defeating Karen Khachanov in the final.

A few weeks later, Shelton looked poised for a deep run at the US Open before a shoulder injury cruelly forced him to withdraw mid-tournament. Since returning, his form has clearly dipped -  he made little impact during the European indoor swing but showed signs of life by reaching the Paris Masters quarter-finals, once again halted by a red-hot Sinner.

The 23-year-old made his ATP Finals debut earlier in the week against Alexander Zverev, and while he produced flashes of brilliance, he couldn’t capitalise on his chances - surrendering a 6-3 lead in the second-set tiebreak to fall 6-3, 7-6 (6). Shelton was then eliminated from the tournament after going down in a 6-4 6-7 5-7 defeat to Felix Auger-Aliassime, suffering his ninth top 10 defeat of the year.

Verdict

Sinner will almost certainly make it eight straight wins over Shelton, but the American has generally kept sets close against the Italian and he should hold easier in these fast indoor conditions.
