It's a straight shootout for the semi-finals as Alexander Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime collide at the ATP Finals on Friday night in Turin.

The equation is simple for both players: win and they advance into the semi-finals, effectively making this a quarter-final clash. Both players have impressive pedigree indoors - Zverev is a two-time champion at the ATP Finals and has reached at least the semi-finals in four of his seven previous appearances, making him the most experienced player in these conditions at this year's tournament. Meanwhile, no player has won more than Auger-Aliassime's 84 matches indoors this decade, with seven of the Canadian's eight titles coming in these conditions.

Both players also have a tendency to stumble and let nerves get the better of them in pressure situations, so it will be interesting to see who handles this occasion better. I think Auger-Aliassime holds the value here. Zverev has been below his best for basically the last 10 months, while Auger-Aliassime has enjoyed a career resurgence and has gone 18-2 in completed indoors matches this season, losing only to Jannik Sinner. The Canadian beat Zverev in their most-recent meeting and can double down to make one of the biggest semi-finals of his career in Turin.

Head To Head

Zverev leads 6-3 overall, but it's 3-3 since 2021. Auger-Aliassime produced a thunderous performance to beat Zverev 4-6 7-6 6-4 6-4 in their last meeting in the third round of the 2025 US Open.

Alexander Zverev Form

Alexander Zverev comes into this contest with a 55-24 record for the season - a strong return on paper, but by his lofty standards, it’s been a mixed campaign defined by inconsistency.

After reaching the Australian Open final in January - a run aided by Novak Djokovic’s mid-match retirement in the semis - the German struggled to maintain momentum through the year. His only title came on home soil in Munich, while disappointing early exits followed at the Grand Slams, including a second-round loss at Wimbledon to Arthur Rinderknech and a third-round defeat at the US Open to Auger-Aliassime.

Zverev’s patchy form continued into the Asian swing, where Rinderknech again proved his nemesis with an early-round upset in Shanghai. But there were encouraging signs in Vienna, where Zverev rediscovered his range and fought his way to the final, pushing Jannik Sinner to the brink before falling 7-5 in the third set.

That momentum carried over to Paris, where he reached the Masters 1000 semi-finals, suggesting he may be turning the corner at the perfect time.

Zverev’s record at the ATP Finals remains one of the best on tour - he’s now 19-11 against top-10 opponents at the event and a two-time champion. The German made the ideal start to his 2025 campaign, defeating Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6 in his opener without facing a single break point and winning 84% of first-serve points - a reminder of just how dangerous he can be indoors when locked in.

The 28-year-old suffered his third loss to Sinner in the last 17 days in a 6-4 6-3 defeat in his second round robin match, but he created multiple break points and had his chances, but simply couldn't convert. The German wasn't helped by Sinner finding a first serve on all of his break chances.

Felix Auger-Aliassime Form

It’s been a resurgent season for Auger-Aliassime, who has compiled a 49-23 record, climbed back inside the world’s top 10 and earned his place at the ATP Finals.

The Canadian has delivered some of the most consistent tennis of his career, capturing three ATP titles in Adelaide, Montpellier and Brussels, while also finishing runner-up in Dubai and at the Paris Masters.

On the big stage, Auger-Aliassime’s form has held up under pressure - he reached the semi-finals of the US Open, scoring top-10 victories over Alex de Minaur and Alexander Zverev, both fellow Turin qualifiers.

Under the weight of expectation to secure his Finals spot, the 25-year-old rose to the occasion, winning Brussels and backing it up with a run to the Paris final, showcasing his ability to thrive when it matters most.

Heading into Turin, Auger-Aliassime had won 22 of his last 23 completed matches against players other than Jannik Sinner, a statistic that underlines just how formidable he’s been in recent months.

Unfortunately for the Canadian, he found himself grouped with Sinner at the ATP Finals — and once again, the World No. 1 proved too strong. Despite a competitive opening set, Auger-Aliassime ultimately faded in a 5–7, 1–6 defeat, highlighting the razor-thin margin separating him from the game’s elite.

Auger-Aliassime again proved he's operating at a level just below that of Sinner and Alcaraz right now, coming back from a set down to conquer Ben Shelton 4-6 7-5 7-5 to keep his semi-final hopes alive and registering a tour-leading 20th win in a deciding set this season.
