Alcaraz has dominated Musetti in the past, winning their last seven meetings. Despite a minor injury setback earlier in the season, Alcaraz is in top form, boasting victories against top players and two Grand Slam titles. The equation for Alcaraz is simple - defeat Musetti and he will go 3-0 during the ATP Finals group stage for the first time and more importantly, wrap up the year-end No. 1 ranking from Jannik Sinner. The Spaniard has never fully flourished indoors at the season-ending championships, but after relatively close victories over Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur, he now stands on the cusp of reaching the semi-finals for just the second time - although, such is the nature of these groups, he could still be eliminated if he loses this in straight sets and depending on the result of Fritz vs de Minaur earlier on Thursday.
However, that's very unlikely to happen. Alcaraz has won 14 of his last 15 encounters with top 10 players, with the only defeat in that period coming against Sinner. He's also won his last seven meetings with Musetti, who emptied the tank in a miraculous comeback victory over de Minaur to keep his own slim semi-final hopes alive. However, the Italian is clearly fatigued after his efforts in Athens last week and this one could be over quickly as a result. If Alcaraz is in a ruthless mood - which he should be given what's at stake - then I expect the World No. 1 to register a dominant victory here.
Head To Head
As mentioned, Alcaraz has dominated Musetti throughout the course of their careers. The Italian actually won the very first meeting, but Alcaraz has won seven on the trot since - including three during this year's clay swing in Monte Carlo, Rome and Roland Garros.
Carlos Alcaraz Form
Alcaraz arrives at this contest with a remarkable 69-8 record for the season, needing just one more victory to lock up the year-end World No. 1 ranking.
Since the European clay swing, the Spaniard has been almost untouchable, reaching nine consecutive finals between Monte Carlo and Tokyo, showcasing consistency and brilliance across all surfaces.
It’s been a trophy-laden year for the 22-year-old, adding two Grand Slam titles at Roland Garros and the US Open, while also lifting silverware in Monte Carlo, Rome, Queen’s Club, Cincinnati and Tokyo.
Alcaraz did suffer a minor setback late in the season after picking up a slight ankle injury during his Tokyo triumph, prompting a withdrawal from Shanghai. He returned at the Paris Masters, where he was upset in the opening round by Cameron Norrie.
Now targeting his first ATP Finals crown, Alcaraz began his Turin campaign in promising fashion, defeating Alex de Minaur 7-6, 6-2 to notch his first-ever opening round-robin win at the season-ending event.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing - Alcaraz blew a 4-1 lead in the first set and trailed 3-5 in the tiebreak, but regrouped impressively to steal the opener before cruising through the second set. Alcaraz then came from a set down to win for the first time at the ATP Finals in his second group match against Fritz, fighting off break points at 2-2 in the second before steadying the ship and prevailing 6-7 7-5 6-3.
Lorenzo Musetti Form
Musetti heads into clash with a 45-21 record for the season, earning a maiden ATP Finals berth at the eleventh hour following Novak Djokovic’s withdrawal.
While the year has had its ups and downs, it still stands as a breakout campaign for the 23-year-old Italian. He broke into the world’s top 10 for the first time, driven by a superb clay-court season that featured a final in Monte Carlo and semi-final runs in Madrid, Rome and Roland Garros.
An injury suffered during that French Open semi-final stalled his momentum, and while Musetti hasn’t quite rediscovered that level since, he’s remained a steady performer, reaching finals in Chengdu and Athens, the quarter-finals of the US Open and semi-finals in Vienna.
However, his inability to close out finals continues to be a mental barrier — Musetti has now lost five consecutive championship matches. His latest defeat came just last week in Athens, where he battled through several gruelling three-setters before falling to Djokovic 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in a match that lasted nearly three hours.
Ironically, all that effort proved unnecessary, as Djokovic’s withdrawal secured Musetti’s place in Turin regardless. The toll of that Athens run was evident in his 6-3, 6-4 loss to Taylor Fritz in his opening ATP Finals match, however Musetti somehow mustered the energy to register an incredible comeback victory over de Minaur to keep his tournament alive.
Musetti produced an epic fightback from 3-5 down in the deciding set, blasting winners off both wings and stunning de Minaur by winning the final four games of the match to take it 7-5 3-6 7-5.

Verdict
I feel Musetti emptied the tank against de Minaur - can't see him repeating that heroic effort here.
Alcaraz continues to dominate top 10 players and he can secure the No. 1 ranking with a victory - he'll be in an unforgiving mood.
