In a high-stakes ATP Finals match, World No. 1 Jannik Sinner takes on two-time champion Alexander Zverev on Wednesday in Turin. Sinner, riding an 11-match winning streak, has been dominant indoors this season, especially against top 10 players, excluding Carlos Alcaraz. Meanwhile, Zverev enters the tournament with mixed form but brings significant experience to the table, being the most seasoned participant with prior titles in the competition. While Sinner is the favorite, Zverev's strong serve can make it competitive, as seen in their head-to-head encounters.

Jannik Sinner vs Alexander Zverev Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner continues his bid for back-to-back ATP Finals titles when he comes up against two-time former champion Alexander Zverev in Turin on Wednesday.

Both players emerged victorious in their opening matches at the season-ending championships, with Sinner surviving a tough first set before cruising past Felix Auger-Aliassime, while Zverev recovered from a 3-6 deficit in the second set tiebreak of his clash with Ben Shelton, reeling off five consecutive points to prevail in straights. Zverev is actually the most experienced and successful player at this year's ATP Finals, making his eighth appearance at the tournament and winning the title on two occasions. However, the German has been well below his best this season, so he'll need to draw on those memories if he is to make it a hat-trick of season-ending titles in 2025.

Of course Sinner is the deserving overwhelming favourite. The Italian has won his last 27 matches indoors and 26 straight outings against top 10 players other than Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner is virtually unstoppable in these conditions and playing at home in Turin is yet another advantage. However, I'm keen to back Zverev with a big +4.5 games start here. The German has one of the best serves in the game and these slick, indoor conditions should help him earn cheap points and holds. It's just a big games line in a best-of-three match between the World No. 1 and World No. 3. Zverev has also covered this line in six of his last eight meetings with Sinner, for what it's worth.

Head To Head

Sinner leads 5-4. There was a time Zverev won four matches in a row in this H2H, but Sinner has turned the tables and comes into this clash having toppled the German in the last four meetings - including a 6-0 6-1 demolition in the recent Paris Masters semi-finals. However, it must be noted Zverev rolled his ankle in the previous round and wasn't anywhere close to his best shape.

Jannik Sinner Form

Sinner comes into this contest with a 54-6 record on the season - an extraordinary mark that underscores his dominance in 2025. Remarkably, his only completed loss to a player other than Carlos Alcaraz came against Alexander Bublik on the grass courts of Halle.

It’s been another stellar year for the Italian. Sinner successfully defended his Australian Open title and after serving a three-month suspension, returned to capture his first Wimbledon crown, defeating Alcaraz in the final to complete his redemption arc.

There have been setbacks along the way - most notably a five-set defeat to Alcaraz in the French Open final and a four-set loss to the Spaniard at the US Open, continuing one of modern tennis’s fiercest rivalries.

Sinner has also battled physical issues late in the season, retiring from matches in Cincinnati and Shanghai and visibly struggling with cramp during his runs in Vienna and Paris.

Even so, those issues didn’t derail him - Sinner captured back-to-back titles in Vienna and Paris, arriving in Turin on a 10-match winning streak and once again looking like the man to beat at the ATP Finals.

Sinner made it 11 victories on the bounce in his ATP Finals opener, once again taking care of Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-5 6-1 to record his fourth win over the Canadian since August. Sinner won 89 per cent of his first serve points and didn't face a single break point.

Alexander Zverev Form

Zverev heads into this encounter with a 55-23 record for the season - a solid return on paper, though by his standards it’s been a below-par campaign.

Since reaching the Australian Open final back in January - a run aided by Novak Djokovic’s retirement in the semi-finals - the German has struggled to find consistency or rhythm across the year.

His lone title came on home soil in Munich, while disappointing early exits followed at the Grand Slams, including a second-round defeat at Wimbledon to Arthur Rinderknech and a third-round loss at the US Open to Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Zverev’s patchy form extended into the Asian swing, where he again fell early in Shanghai to Rinderknech. However, he rediscovered some momentum in Vienna, producing his best tennis in months to reach the final, where he pushed Jannik Sinner to the limit before falling 7-5 in the third set.

The German went on to reach the Paris Masters semi-finals, perhaps again signalling that he's on the cusp of returning to some consistent great tennis.

Zverev has compiled an 18-10 record against top 10 players at the ATP Finals and was victorious again his opener, with the two-time champion defeating Ben Shelton 6-3 7-6, not facing a single break point and winning 84 per cent of first serves.

Verdict

For all his heartbreak and near misses, Zverev usually plays Sinner pretty close - their last match in Paris should be discounted as he clearly wasn't fit with an ankle issue.

I'd be shocked if Zverev won, but +4.5 games is a huge start for the World No. 3 if his serve is firing in these conditions.
