Pericles (barrier 11) is the early market elect for the 2024 Underwood Stakes and the two-time Group 2 winner is looking for a breakthrough at Group 1 level, having placed three times in this company from eight prior Group 1 attempts.

The resuming Fawkner Park (barrier 2) won three of his last four appearances over the autumn and winter period, and he currently sits on the second line of betting for the 2024 Caulfield Cup.
South Australian Derby winner Coco Sun (barrier 7) will be suited up in distance following a solid 1400m resumption behind a smart Another Wil on August 31 and that race produced Berkeley Square, who impressed last Saturday when taking out the last at Flemington despite covering ground.
Buckaroo (barrier 10) showed promise in his first two Australian campaigns, which included a third in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes and the Chris Waller-trained import brought up his first Australian win last start in the Chelmsford Stakes.
The six-year-old was gelded ahead of his spring return and he'll contest the Underwood Stakes third-up from a spell, with Joao Moreira taking the reins.
Chris Waller also prepares Kovalica (barrier 12) and while the gelding hasn't saluted since taking out the 2023 Queensland Derby, his recent return in the Tramway Stakes was encouraging.

Underwood Stakes Winners
Along with holding its own prestige as a Group 1 WFA feature, the Underwood Stakes is often a strong form race for the spring majors and that was evident last year, with Attrition, Without A Fight, Soulcombe and Duais all being produced from this event.
The Underwood Stakes was first run and won back in 1924 by Whittier, who ended up defending that title a year later.
An 1800m feature run under weight-for-age conditions, The Underwood Stakes gives the winner a ballot-exempt route into the Caulfield Cup.
