Bendigo Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 6 He’s Regal

A $500,000 purchase at the 2025 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, He’s Regal showed plenty in his jump-outs before making his debut last month.

The three-year-old won three of his five jump-outs, including his most recent 750m hit-out on the Pakenham synthetic.

He then debuted at Seymour 10 days later and was narrowly beaten into second on a wet surface after racing prominently over this distance.

From an inside draw he should again settle close to the speed, while Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr can expect natural improvement from that first race-day experience.

Blake Shinn retains the ride and, with the switch to a firmer surface unlikely to pose any issues, He’s Regal looks capable of breaking through at start two.

Bendigo Value Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Regal Might

Recent metropolitan form gives Regal Might some appeal as he drops back to country Benchmark 62 level on Sunday.

The gelding resumed with a strong second over 1100m at Bendigo in May after racing on speed, before filling the same position at Sandown next start.

His two most recent efforts have been below that level, although there were excuses at Morphettville Parks last time when he drew wide and tackled a wet surface over 1400m.

A return to Good ground should suit John McArdle’s runner, while the drop in grade also looks a significant positive.

John Allen takes the ride and, from barrier six, Regal Might maps to get every chance near the speed and may even find a relatively soft lead.

Bendigo Roughie - Race 8 No. 2 Sound Of Jura

Sound Of Jura has shown a liking for Bendigo in the past, recording a win and a third from three starts at the venue.

Although the six-year-old usually improves with a run under his belt, he has twice placed when resuming and returns here after two jump-outs.

The latest of those saw him take a step forward when second over 1300m at Bendigo, while his previous campaign ended with a fair fifth in the Kerang Cup.

Dropping back from 1800m is no concern given all four of his career wins have come over this trip, and he is versatile enough to handle a range of track conditions.

Anne Yates’ gelding recently skipped a race at Wodonga and, with a solid local record to his name, he looks capable of running above market expectations fresh.

Bendigo Best Bet - Race 10 No. 3 Lawborough

Lawborough opened his career with consecutive wins, following a Ballarat maiden success with another victory at Cranbourne in March.

He was then stepped straight into metropolitan company and produced a solid eighth in the Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes at Morphettville, beaten only three-and-a-half lengths despite starting at $81.

Two encouraging jump-outs have prepared him for this return, while the sharp drop back in grade gives him a far more suitable assignment.

The son of Per Incanto also drops to 1100m, but that should pose no issue, with both of his previous wins coming on Good ground and an inside draw another positive.

A cross-over nose band goes on for the first time and, with Jye McNeil reunited with the gelding, Lawborough looks well placed to take out the finale.
