The 2022 Moir Stakes is a quality 1000m WFA event, run at Moonee Valley on AFL Grand Final Eve.

Paulele (barrier six) returns to the races first-up off the back of two trials in between now and his Brisbane prep. During that campaign, he was placed in both the Group One Doomben 10,000 & Group One Kingsford Smith Cup, so he is the quality.

Rothfire (barrier five) was a track and trip winner first-up, taking out the Group Two McEwen Stakes, although was afforded every opportunity.

Bella Nipotina (barrier 11) defeated Extremely Lucky (barrier 12) in the Carlyon Stakes last month, of which both horses have been kept fresh for this race.

Zoustyle (barrier nine) placed behind Rothfire in the McEwen Stakes last start and has the tactical pace to put himself into the race once again.

Moir Stakes Winners

The Moir Stakes might not be the oldest race on the Melbourne calendar but it is without question one of the more beloved sprinting events.

The Moir is a spring shaping event on the Melbourne, with a number of winners going on to bigger and better things on the back of a victory in this event.

The inimitable Black Caviar, Queensland juggernaut Buffering and hall of famer Apache Cat launched big campaigns on the back of AJ Moir Stakes success, while Viddora claimed the prize in 2018 before heading to Hong Kong.

The race is traditionally run the night before the AFL Grand Final after originally being an event that was ran on Cox Plate day.
