Novak Djokovic continues his quest for a fifth US Open title as he faces American qualifier Zachary Svajda in the second round. Djokovic boasts an impressive record in the US Open, having won four titles and achieving a 91-14 win-loss record. His form remains strong, with a near-perfect record against players ranked outside the top 100 in Grand Slams. Meanwhile, Svajda, ranked 145th, has qualified well but lacks the weapons to challenge Djokovic. The prediction is a straight-set victory for Djokovic as the Serbian eyes a smooth passage into the third round.

Djokovic has compiled a 91-14 record at the US Open throughout his illustrious career, winning four titles (2011, 2015, 2018 and 2023). The Serbian remains on the hunt for that elusive 25th major singles title and he'll be confident of making it through to the third round with a favourable draw here. Djokovic is a near-flawless 76-1 against players ranked outside the top 100 in slams, while he hasn't lost in the second round of a major since the 2017 Australian Open, where he suffered that shock defeat to Denis Istomin.

Svajda, currently ranked No. 145 in the world, has played well to qualify into the main draw and win his opening round, but he simply doesn't have the weaponry or firepower to repeatedly hit through Djokovic's defences. Djokovic wasn't at his best physically in his opening round win over Learner Tien and he's been scheduled in the day here, which might be a concern, but I just can't see him having any trouble dealing with Svajda here. Backing the Serbian in straights.

Head To Head

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Novak Djokovic Form

Djokovic has registered a 27-9 record on the season heading into this contest, where he will be playing just his second match since Wimbledon.

The 37-year-old opted to skip both Toronto and Cincinnati during the summer, meaning his first round US Open clash against Learner Tien was his first outing since going down to Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon semi-finals.

Tien has beaten multiple top 10 players this season and was a dangerous opponent, but Djokovic subdued the teenager and after surviving a tough second set, ran away with a 6-1, 7-6(3), 6-2 victory.

Djokovic has reached the semi-finals of all three Grand Slams in 2025, while he also finished runner-up at the Miami Masters and captured his 100th career title in Geneva.

The Serbian will be hoping for a more successful US Open than last year, where he went down in the third round to Alexei Popyrin.

Zachary Svajda Form

Svajda has posted a 2-2 record at tour-level so far in 2025, spending most of his time on the Challenger circuit as he attempts to improve his ranking closer to the top 100.

A talented junior who beat Ben Shelton to win the American U18s in 2021, Svajda has found the transition to the main tour challenging - unlike Shelton, he simply doesn't have the natural firepower and instead must rely on court craft and point construction.

Svajda has only played one top 10 player previously in his career - and that was a straight sets loss to Taylor Fritz at Washington in 2023.

The 22-year-old earned just his second win at a Grand Slam in his US Open first round, defeating fellow qualifier Zsombor Piros in straight sets. Svajda also didn't drop a single set in qualifying with wins over August Holmgren, Beibit Zhukayev and Marc Andrea-Huesler.
