It's been a difficult last couple of months for Musetti - the Italian was playing career-best tennis to surge to No. 6 in the world during the clay swing, but an injury that forced him to retire in the French Open semi-finals has hindered his progress. Indeed, Mpetshi Perricard launched the season by reaching the semi-finals of Brisbane, while he warmed up for the US Open by making the semis of Winston Salem, defeating the likes of Hamad Medjedovic and Alexandre Muller before going down to Botic Van De Zandschulp.
The Frenchman also won the Challenger title in Bordeaux on clay to help keep his ranking afloat, but overall he's struggled for consistency and establishing himself as a top player on tour.
Mpetshi Perricard is playing the US Open main draw for just the second time after losing in straight sets to Tomas Martin Etcheverry last year in the first round.
