Swiatek comes into this contest having won 17 of her last 18 matches, including winning the Wimbledon and Cincinnati titles, well and truly returning to some of her best tennis after a challenging previous 12 months. The Polish player is aiming for her second US Open title this tournament, but she hasn't been entirely convincing over her last two rounds, dropping a set to Suzan Lamens and being forced to recover from 1-5 down and save four set points in the opener against Anna Kalinskaya.

With that in mind, I think Alexandrova has a great chance to snatch a set here. The Russian has beaten Swiatek twice before, including their most-recent hardcourt meeting in Miami last year. Alexandrova is also in career-best form, operating at a peak ranking of No. 12 and bulldozing her way into the fourth round without dropping more than four games in a set. I'm backing Alexandrova to make a real contest out of this, but this resurgent version of Swiatek is still likely to prevail.

Swiatek leads 5-2, winning their most-recent clash 6-4 7-6 in the Bad Homburg quarter-finals earlier this season. Alexandrova was a 6-4 6-2 winner in their last meeting on hardcourt at Miami 2024.

Swiatek heads into this showdown with a 52-12 record on the season, rising from No. 7 in June to a current ranking of No. 2.

The 24-year-old was struggling considerably on tour, but turned things around with a surprise title triumph at Wimbledon, crushing Amanda Anisimova 6-0 6-0 in the final.

The six-time major champion has continued her fine form, toppling the likes of Elena Rybakina and Jasmine Paolini to capture the Cincinnati title before arriving in New York.

Swiatek was dominant in her opening round match against Emiliana Arango, but has been forced to dig deep in her last two matches.

Indeed, Swiatek dropped a set in a 6-1 4-6 6-4 victory over No. 66 Suzan Lamens in the second round before surviving four set points in the opener against Anna Kalinskaya, eventually prevailing 7-6 6-4.

Alexandrova has registered a 38-18 record for the season coming into this contest, rising to a career-high ranking of No. 12.

It's been an incredibly consistent season for Alexandrova - she's reached a whopping eight quarter-finals in these eight months of 2025, including winning her fifth WTA title in Linz and making the final of Monterrey just before the US Open.

The 30-year-old will be hoping to make her first Grand Slam quarter-final in New York having previously gone 0-3 in fourth round matches - including at Roland Garros and Wimbledon this year.

Alexandrova has been ruthlessly efficient in her opening three matches, crushing Anastasija Sevastova, Wang Xinyu and Laura Siegemund without dropping more than four games in a set.
