De Minaur has been a beacon of consistency over the last few years, reaching the quarter-finals in four of his last six Grand Slam appearances and establishing himself as a top 10 player. The Aussie now has another great chance to make the last eight of a major when he comes up against Riedi, who has enjoyed a stunning run to the fourth round.

Riedi, currently No. 435 in the world, is the lowest-ranked player to reach the second week of the US Open since Jay Berger in 1985. The Swiss' progress was disrupted by knee surgery at the end of last year, but he's now making up for lost time in New York, with Riedi set to be ranked back inside the top 200 at the end of this tournament - and he could reach the brink of the top 100 with a big upset here. However, that's unlikely to happen. While Riedi has immense firepower and weapons, de Minaur's rally tolerance and consistency from the back of the court will outlast him. Riedi can make this somewhat competitive, but de Minaur is backed to prevail.

Head To Head

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Alex de Minaur Form

De Minaur has registered a 40-15 record on the season, coming into this contest ranked No. 8 in the world and looking good to defend his US Open quarter-final points from last year.

In fact, de Minaur has a fantastic opportunity to make his first Grand Slam semi-final in New York after third seed Alexander Zverev was eliminated from his section. That means only Riedi and the winner of Felix Auger-Aliassime and Andrey Rublev stand in his path.

The Aussie has received a favourable draw at this US Open, it must be said. De Minaur eased past Chris O'Connell and Shintaro Mochizuki in straight sets in his opening two rounds before subduing the hard-hitting Daniel Altmaier in four sets in the third round, emerging a 6-7 6-3 6-4 2-0 winner after the German retired due to fatigue in the fourth.

It's been another consistent season for de Minaur - the 26-year-old picked up his 10th career title in Washington earlier this summer and was also a runner-up in Rotterdam, along with reaching the Australian Open quarter-finals and Monte Carlo semis.

Leandro Riedi Form

Riedi was 0-2 on the main tour in 2025 and 3-10 lifetime before this week. Now, the Swiss has doubled that tally for the biggest result of his brief career in New York.

After undergoing knee surgery at the end of last year, Riedi was sidelined until May before getting going again in 2025.

It hasn't taken along for the talented 23-year-old to make his mark. Riedi qualified for his first Grand Slam main draw at Wimbledon and he's gone to another level at the US Open.

Riedi qualified for the main draw without dropping a set before defeating Pedro Martinez and World No. 19 Francisco Cerundolo to reach the third round. Riedi then experienced a slice of good fortune, with his opponent Kamil Majchrzak retiring in the first set.

Verdict

Riedi has a big game and if he can redline, the Swiss can make life difficult for de Minaur.

However, over the course of five sets, that sort of play likely won't be sustainable against a quality counterpuncher. Backing the Aussie with Over 30.5 total games.
