The 2022 Caulfield Guineas is the classic three-year-old mile event of the Melbourne Spring Carnival, a stallion making event that often leads to a Cox Plate.
Coming through the Golden Rose (1400m), Golden Mile (barrier five) poses as a key contender, with some Group One form behind him in Sydney, running fourth to Jacquinot.
Berkeley Square (barrier seven) is untapped and could not have been anymore impressive when winning the Exford Plate (1400m) last start, notching up his third career win.
Behind him in that was Tijuana (barrier 10) who has subsequently come out and ticked the mile box, winning the Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley thanks to a beautiful ride by Mark Zahra.
Amenable (barrier 14) closed off really nicely in heavy conditions behind Aft Cabin in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) a fortnight ago while Bank Maur (barrier 17) looks to have plenty of scope moving forward.

Caulfield Guineas Winners
One of the oldest Group One races in Melbourne history, the Caulfield Guineas was first run in 1881.
Originally run at Flemington during the War-time period, the Caulfield Guineas has since made its home at Caulfield and it has been the crowning achievement for numerous stallions which have gone on to have lucrative stud careers.
A mile journey since its inception, the Caulfield Guineas was given Group 1 status in 1979, when many of Australia’s top races became Group 1 level. That year, it was taken out by Runaway Kid after Manikato had won the year prior.
Known as a stallion-making race, the Guineas has been won by many of Australia’s best stallions, including the likes of All Too Hard, Lonhro and Redoute’s Choice.
It’s a good race for future betting guides, including the Victoria Derby. Caulfield Guineas winners have gone on to win the Derby on 16 occasions, but the most recent came in 2002 with Helenus.
