Scone Tips September 1

Best Bet

Race 1 No. 4 Joika

A strong record at Scone gives Joika plenty of appeal, with the mare breaking her maiden here in impressive fashion in July.

She scored by more than three-and-a-half lengths on Soft ground before stepping up to 1850m at Newcastle and finishing a close third from a wide barrier.

Beaten less than half a length that day, the form has held up well with the fourth and eighth both winning subsequently, while Joika also caught the eye working home strongly from off the speed.

The daughter of Maurice can be forgiven a below-par Newcastle effort last time and now gets back to a circuit where she has already shown a liking.

Paul Messara and Leah Gavranich’s four-year-old should appreciate the extra distance and, with Aaron Bullock again aboard after partnering her in all four starts this preparation, she looks well placed to record career win number two.

Value Bet

Race 3 No. 7 Time To Commit

Time To Commit has made a strong start for her current stable, finishing in the top two in all three appearances since changing yards.

That sequence began with a first-up maiden win at Warren in July over 1200m on Soft ground before she backed it up with a runner-up finish over the same trip at Scone 10 days later.

The four-year-old then stepped to this distance at Gunnedah and again finished second, suggesting the rise in trip poses no concern.

She is yet to race on anything more testing than a Soft 6, but her pedigree offers enough encouragement that the current conditions should not be a major issue.

Having been ridden cold in her past two starts, Time To Commit should get a suitable setup again and looks capable of breaking through at Class 1 level.

Market Mover

Race 7 No. 9 Myalaby

Tim McIntosh’s representative performed well when runner-up here first-up and has attracted support in early betting.

The mare was beaten less than a length on Soft ground and, after opening at $12 with Ladbrokes, Myalaby is now $8.50.

Stats Say

Brett and Georgie Cavanough boast an impressive 24% strike-rate at Scone in 2026, with 14 winners from 58 runners, and they have three representatives on Tuesday’s card.

Magic Merlin contributed to that course tally when winning here last month and is expected to feature prominently in betting for Race 5.

Cosmic Jinks showed ability in three starts last season and heads into Race 6 off a Muswellbrook trial win, giving him solid claims fresh.

The stable’s final runner, Cassiere, produced some encouraging metropolitan efforts in Brisbane during 2025 and rates highly on debut for the Cavanough yard after more than a year away from racing.
