This is a stallion-making race for the colts and in the past, we have seen the likes of Flying Spur, Zabeel, Reset, Shamus Award and Wandjina all going on to stud duties.
At $3.90 with Colossalbet, Angel Capital is favourite to win the 2025 Australian Guineas.
2025 Australian Guineas Tips
2025 Australian Guineas Best Bet - Angel Capital
The son of Harry Angel has four wins from seven starts and this will be his second try at 1600m, with the previous mile attempt resulting in a sixth-place finish in last year's Caulfield Guineas.
With a trip to Queensland and back in his first prep, and with the colt firing in September off what was only a short break, perhaps he was looking for the paddock in that last 1600m tilt?
Trainer Clinton McDonald has times this Group 1 assignment early in the campaign, with Angel Capital second-up here after a slick Autumn Stakes resumption on February 8.
With Evaporate (third in the Autumn Stakes) then competitive via a tough run at Group 1 WFA level in the Futurity Stakes, that fresh form reads well and the Australian Guineas looks the target.
2025 Australian Guineas Value Bet - Savour The Dream
It's an open race and bookies are dismissing this Queensland visitor, a consistent three-year-old who is improving with racing and he's won his last two outings (both over this trip).
The Eagle Farm triumph on December 21 was quite arrogant, as Savour The Dream was back/held-up at key stages before finding an inside run and he was looked after late.
The son of Super Seth remained at 1600m on February 8 off a freshen-up and he saluted again despite giving weight to all of his rivals (runner-up carried 6.5kg less, third had 8.5g less).
This is clearly his hardest ask to date; however, Savour The Dream is an in-form three-year-old who still looks untapped and the big colt should relish the wide expanses of Flemington.
2025 Australian Guineas Roughie - Henlein
A flying El Castello held him off over 2000m in the Group 1 Spring Champion, while the earlier season form lines through Lady Shenandoah and Evaporate are both decent references.
Henlein appeared forward enough fresh off his lead-up work and the market was with him for his CS Hayes Stakes resumption, but he let his supporters down with a disappointing run.
Along with respecting the first-up starting price and money for him via that key lead-up race, he also didn't handle a Soft 7 surface according to Mark Zahra and he stays aboard second-up.
Blinkers now go on Henlein, who looked one of the more promising middle-distance three-year-old's of this crop ahead of his February 15 effort and he's big odds off only one bad run.
