Mornington stages a nine-race card on Sunday, 1 November, with the Peninsula Cup as the feature. Lim's Saltoro is tipped to win the Cup, supported by his Group 1-winning form in Singapore and consistent Australian performances, including a recent third in the Listed Seymour Cup. Invincible Lover is selected in Race 5, dropping in grade after a promising return, while Kokako is favoured in Race 9 for her strong first-up record and unbeaten partnership with Jamie Melham. Cable Dancer is suggested each-way in Race 8, returning to firmer ground and a suitable distance.

Mornington Tips November 1

Evergreen Turf Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Mornington Best Bet - Race 5 No. 5 Invincible Lover

A return to 1000m in easier company looks an ideal assignment for Invincible Lover, who showed she was capable of competing against winners when resuming at Cranbourne in September.

The daughter of I Am Invincible ended her previous preparation with a victory on Soft ground at Pakenham in March, scoring by just under half a length after enjoying an economical run along the inside.

Her first-up third over 955m at Cranbourne came on Good ground in a Benchmark 66, suggesting the drop in grade is favourable, while her previous performances indicate she should be effective regardless of how conditions develop.

An inside barrier gives Jamie Melham, who retains the ride, the opportunity to secure another economical passage, with the mare having shown her best form when ridden patiently before producing a late finish.

Freshened since that September resumption, the four-year-old appears well placed to improve on her encouraging return and register another victory.

Sportsbet Peninsula Cup Tips (Race 6)

Mornington Feature Race Bet - Race 6 No. 1 Lim's Saltoro

Group 1-winning form from Singapore makes Lim's Saltoro an interesting contender for Sunday's Peninsula Cup, with a breakthrough Australian victory looking increasingly close.

The New Zealand-bred gelding won ten races in Singapore, including the Group 1 Singapore Derby over 1800m in 2024, and has finished third in three of his four appearances this preparation, with his only unplaced effort coming second-up at Flemington.

There was plenty to like about his latest third in the Listed Seymour Cup over 1600m, where he raced prominently and remained competitive throughout, demonstrating his versatility despite having produced his strongest performances on firmer ground.

His earlier third at Caulfield has also received a form boost, with the runner-up and seventh-place finisher both winning at their subsequent starts, adding further substance to his Australian performances.

Barrier two should allow the seven-year-old to enjoy an economical run close to the speed, while the addition of a tongue tie for the first time is another interesting adjustment, and his proven class makes him a leading contender for the feature.

Mornington Value Bet - Race 8 No. 2 Cable Dancer

A return to firmer ground and another rise in distance could be the combination that brings Cable Dancer back into winning contention third-up at Mornington.

The experienced stayer produced several competitive performances in stronger company during his previous preparation, including a narrow second over 3000m at Sandown in April, which represented one of his better efforts on Soft ground.

All six of his career victories have come on firmer surfaces, and he resumed with an encouraging third over an unsuitable 1600m at Bendigo in September, outperforming his big starting price despite drawing wide.

Stepping up in distance at Seymour subsequently, the seven-year-old stayed on steadily for seventh on a Soft 5, with that outing providing another valuable fitness boost ahead of Sunday's assignment.

Charlotte Littlefield's gelding has been ridden patiently in both appearances this preparation and similar tactics are expected here, while his encouraging Mornington record and the return of winkers add to his appeal at attractive odds.

Progress Signs Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Mornington Next Best Bet - Race 9 No. 2 Kokako

Three wins from five first-up appearances make Kokako particularly interesting on her return, especially with Jamie Melham reuniting with the mare after winning both previous rides aboard her.

The daughter of Swiss Ace has won on both Good and Soft ground, including a victory at Bendigo in September last year, while another first-up success came at Pakenham in February.

Both appearances during her previous preparation came in stronger company than she faces here, beginning with a fifth in Group 3 company at Morphettville in May before finishing eighth in a metropolitan Benchmark 70 at Caulfield Heath the following month.

Although unplaced on both occasions, she was beaten less than five lengths in those 1200m contests, and three jump-out appearances at Cranbourne this preparation should have her forward enough to produce a strong fresh performance.

While a wider barrier presents a challenge, her excellent first-up statistics and unbeaten partnership with Melham suggest the six-year-old is capable of making a successful return to racing.
