Badosa has never lost before the third round at Roland Garros, but the Spaniard is in big danger of an opening elimination here. Badosa has once again been struck down by injury over the last couple of months, playing just one tournament on clay in the lead-up to the French Open after withdrawing from Miami in March.
Osaka meanwhile has enjoyed one of her most fruitful clay swings, winning her first title on the surface and recently reaching the R16 of Rome. The four-time major champion has recovered from her own injury problems at the start of the season and has won 17 of her 23 matches in 2025 overall. I'm backing Osaka to take advantage of an underdone Badosa and come away with the win, possibly in three.

It's been another injury-affected season for Badosa, who comes into this encounter with a 13-8 record and just one tournament since March.
Badosa started 2025 with a bang, reaching her maiden Grand Slam semi-final at the Australian Open, defeating Coco Gauff along the way.
However, more injuries have since surfaced for Badosa, who has admitted retirement could be on the agenda sooner rather than later.
The Spaniard returned from a two-month layoff in Strasbourg last week, but failed to win a completed match, losing in the second round to Liudmila Samsonova in three sets.
Badosa has never lost before the third round at Roland Garros and made her first major quarter-final in Paris back in 2021.
Naomi Osaka Form
Osaka heads into this showdown with a 17-6 record on the season and back inside the top 50 for the first time since her comeback.
If not for an injury that forced her to retire in the Auckland final and in the third round of the Australian Open, Osaka could well be seeded at this Roland Garros.
After recovering from that injury, Osaka won her first ever title on clay at any level when she triumphed in the Saint-Malo 125k event earlier this month.
The Japanese put together an eight-match winning streak on the surface, with her run coming to an end in the fourth round of Rome against Peyton Stearns.
Osaka is 0-5 vs top 10 players on clay, but almost pulled off a huge victory at Roland Garros last year, pushing eventual champion Iga Swiatek to 7-5 in the third.
