Paolini surprised everyone by making back-to-back Grand Slam finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in 2024 and so far in 2024 she's proved that form wasn't a fluke, returning to Paris as the World No. 4 and a legitimate title contender after crushing World No. 2 Coco Gauff to become the first Italian in over 40 years to win the Rome title earlier this month.
Having equaled her career-best winning streak of seven matches by prevailing over Yue Yuan in her Roland Garros opener, Paolini will be confident of extending that run when she faces Tomljanovic, who comes into this encounter on a seven-match losing streak against top 10 players. Tomljanovic is however capable of troubling the elite players for periods, she just doesn't have the consistency to close them out. I'm backing the Aussie to cover a relatively big +6.5 line - something Paolini has failed to cover in eight of her last 10 matches.

Paolini arrives at this contest with a 23-8 record on the season, really picking things up since the Miami Open in late March.
It was a relatively slow start to the season, but Paolini has recaptured her best tennis over the last couple of months, making semi-finals in Miami and Stuttgart, along with securing the biggest title of her career at her home tournament in Rome.
The World No. 4 defeated Grand Slam champions in Jelena Ostapenko and Coco Gauff to become the first Italian in four decades to win the Rome silverware.
Returning to Roland Garros after her stunning run to the final last year, Paolini overcame a stern test from China's Yue Yuan in her opening round, recovering from a second set lapse to come away with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 victory.
Ajla Tomljanovic Form
Tomljanovic heads into this encounter with an overall 13-11 record on the season as she continues to rebuild her ranking after injury struck her down at the peak of her powers and ranking, which was as high as No. 32.
It's been a slow burn comeback for Tomljanovic, who's highlights this season include semi-finals in Austin and Rabat, along with a third round showing in Charleston.
The Aussie found some winning momentum in Rabat last week, but was unfortunately forced to retire with illness in the semi-finals against countrywoman Maya Joint, who went on to win the title.
Tomljanovic and Joint met once again in the first round of Roland Garros - and this time it was Tomljanovic who advanced, using her experience to cruise to a 6-1 6-3 win. The 32-year-old is now hoping to make it past the second round of the French Open for the first time since her debut campaign back in 2014, where she made the R16.

Verdict
Paolini is obviously the deserved heavy favourite here and she almost certainly advances.
However, Paolini has failed to cover a -6.5 games line in eight of her last 10 matches and she was forced to a deciding set in her opening round. She has a lot of pressure to defend runner-up points and Tomljanovic has a bit of momentum behind her, so I think the Aussie can cover this line.
