Gasquet has been the ultimate professional for over two decades on tour, making his French Open main draw debut all the way back in 2002. For context, some of the seeded players in that draw included the likes of Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt, Tim Henman, Gustavo Kuerten and Carlos Moya. Albert Costa won the title and Juan Carlos Ferrero, the current coach of Carlos Alcaraz, finished runner-up. It's been an incredible career for the 38-year-old, with Gasquet hitting a career-high ranking of No. 7 in 2007 and winning 16 career titles.
Gasquet earned his first win over a World No. 1 when still a teenager against Roger Federer at Monte Carlo 2005, but unfortunately that was as good as it got, with the Frenchman losing his next 16 matches against the very best. It's perhaps fitting that his career comes to an end against the current World No. 1, with Sinner looking to win his third consecutive Grand Slam title over the next fortnight. The crowd will do their best to get behind Gasquet, but it won't be nearly enough. Sinner will roll through this match effortlessly and should be able to cover a -9.5 games line.
Head To Head
Sinner leads 3-0, including winning their French Open second round match last year by a 64 62 64 score.
Jannik Sinner Form
Sinner comes into this clash with a 13-1 record on the season and having won 104 of his last 113 matches overall since October 2023.
The Italian has won 27 of his last 28 matches dating back to the last couple of months of 2024, while he's also prevailed in each of his last 30 matches against players ranked outside the top 100 since 2021.
After serving a three-month suspension following his successful Australian Open title defence, Sinner returned at his home event in Rome, beating the likes of Francisco Cerundolo, Casper Ruud and Tommy Paul to reach the final, where he was ultimately outclassed by rival Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner launched his French Open campaign with a 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 victory over the big-serving Arthur Rinderknech in the first round, recovering from a 0-4 double break deficit in the third set.
Richard Gasquet Form
Gasquet comes into what is almost certainly the final match of his career with a 4-4 record at tour-level for the season and down at No. 166 in the world.
The 38-year-old announced a while ago that this French Open would be the last tournament of his career and he's been able to prepare accordingly.
That preparation paid dividends in his opening round, where he squared off against countryman Terrence Atmane.
Somewhat surprisingly, Gasquet absolutely steamrolled over the top of his younger compatriot, finishing strongly in a 6-2 2-6 6-3 6-0 demolition.
