World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka faces Iga Swiatek in a highly anticipated French Open semi-final. Sabalenka, aiming for her first Roland Garros final, comes in strong with a 39-6 season record and has not dropped a set in this tournament. Despite Swiatek’s dominance at Roland Garros with a 40-2 record, she faces hurdles as she's lost her last six semi-finals. Sabalenka's confidence and recent wins over Swiatek make her a slight favorite in this encounter.

Aryna Sabalenka vs Iga Swiatek Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

It's a blockbuster French Open semi-final showdown as World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka comes up against three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek.

Sabalenka is aiming to reach her first French Open final, while Swiatek has an extraordinary 40-2 record at Roland Garros and is continuing her pursuit of a fourth consecutive title in Paris.

However, Swiatek has been struggling over the last 12 months, dropping to No. 5 in the rankings and repeatedly coming up short when she reaches the business end of tournaments. Indeed, Swiatek has gone 0-6 in her last six semi-final matches - including losing to Sabalenka in Cincinnati last year. A return to clay hasn't helped, with Swiatek failing to make the final at any of the lead-up events.

Although she trails the H2H, Sabalenka has tons more self-belief, confidence and experience in these moments than in most of their previous meetings. Yet to drop a set this tournament, I think Sabalenka has the slight edge here and can reach her first Roland Garros final.

Head To Head

Swiatek leads 8-4, winning five of their six clay meetings and their only Grand Slam encounter at the 2022 US Open. However, Sabalenka is a different beast these days and won their most-recent clash 6-3 6-3 in the 2024 Cincinnati semi-finals.

Sabalenka has put together a 39-6 record for the season, remaining the dominant World No. 1 and picking up three more WTA titles.

After taking out the Miami Open silverware, Sabalenka has gone 16-2 on clay heading into this showdown, also reigning supreme in Madrid where she defeated Coco Gauff in the final.

Having made the final four at Roland Garros this fortnight, Sabalenka has now reached 11 Grand Slam semi-finals - the most of anyone since Maria Sharapova 14 years ago.

Sabalenka hasn't dropped a single set across her five wins this tournament, defeating Kamilla Rakhimova, Jil Teichmann, Olga Danilovic and Amanda Anisimova before recovering from a 2-4 first set deficit to beat Olympic gold medalist Qinwen Zheng in the quarter-finals by a 7-6 6-3 score, avenging her defeat to the Chinese player from Rome.

Iga Swiatek Form

Swiatek has registered a 32-9 record on the season, uncharacteristically struggling to find her best tennis in the big moments and falling to No. 5 in the world.

It's almost unfathomable to think Swiatek hasn't advanced to another final since lifting her third Roland Garros one year ago.

As mentioned, Swiatek has lost her last six WTA semi-finals - it's become a mental obstacle to overcome, but what better place to snap that sequence than at an event she's absolutely dominated throughout her career. Indeed, Swiatek has compiled an Open Era record 26-match winning streak at Roland Garros coming into this clash.

Swiatek has improved to 40-2 at the French Open this fortnight, toppling Rebecca Sramkova, Emma Raducanu and Jaqueline Cristian before tough victories over Elena Rybakina and Elina Svitolina.

Verdict

Sabalenka has simply been the better player over the last 12 months. Swiatek has lost her last six semi-finals, consistently slipping up at this stage of tournaments.
