There's a lot on the line for Paul just days ahead of the Australian Open starting, with one more win in Adelaide ensuring a maiden place inside the top 10, while Auger-Aliassime will be hoping for a second big American scalp of 2025 after conquering Taylor Fritz in the United Cup.

Auger-Aliassime leads 1-0, but it really could have gone either way, with the Canadian saving multiple match points in a 3-6 6-3 7-6 victory at Indian Wells 2023.

Paul was one of the few players that enjoyed a fairly large off-season, with his last match coming in late October, while he arrived in Australia late last week.

The American was naturally rusty in his Adelaide opener, sneaking past lucky loser Manuel Guinard in three sets, but he was much more clinical in the quarter-finals.

Indeed, Paul saved all four break points and produced a polished performance to upstage home hope Rinky Hijikata 6-3 6-3.

A former Australian Open semi-finalist, Paul has a good draw in Melbourne to potentially replicate that run, but there's still business to attend to in Adelaide, with one more victory guaranteeing the 27-year-old a maiden top 10 ranking.

Felix Auger-Aliassime Form

It's been a relatively disappointing last couple of seasons for Auger-Aliassime, with the Canadian dropping from inside the top 10 to a ranking languishing between 20-30.

Once touted as a future multiple-time major champion, Auger-Aliassime has struggled to establish himself as an elite player on tour, while he's also had to contend with some injury issues too.

But, after declaring he's been fully fit for the better part of the last 12 months, the Canadian will want to start seeing some improved results - and perhaps that will start in Adelaide.

Auger-Aliassime lost his opening match of the season to a struggling Borna Coric, but since then, he's won three in a row, upsetting Fritz in the United Cup before taking out Arthur Cazaux and Marcos Giron to reach the Adelaide semi-finals.

Tommy Paul v Felix Auger Aliassime

Paul has worked his way into the season nicely and he should be fully motivated to perform here, with a top 10 spot on the line.

Auger-Aliassime has the game, but I'm going to need to see more before I'm convinced the Canadian is back to his best form. Their only previous meeting was decided in a final-set tiebreak and I'm backing another close contest here, with Paul coming out on top this time.
