With TopSport, Chris Waller has the first two market elects for the 2025 Surround Stakes and Lady Shenandoah ($1.70) is the favourite.

Spelled after placing in two runs as a juvenile, the daughter of Snitzel improved out of sight via her early three-year-old campaign, with the filly unbeaten from two outings last campaign and that includes a dominant performance in the Group 1 Flight Stakes.

Lady Shenandoah impressed in two January trials ahead of a strong first-up win in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes.

Autumn Glow ($4.60) was arguably the best three-year-old in Australia early this season and after opening her career with a winning hat-trick, she was scratched from the Flight Stakes and then spelled, with a minor bone chip being discovered.

The Autumn Sun filly was a $1.50 favourite for the Flight Stakes before being removed from the race due to injury.

Lady Of Camelot ($6.50) hasn't won since in seven appearances since taking out last year's Golden Slipper, however, she's still been competitive (only finished outside of the top four once in her career).

The Waterhouse & Bott-trained three-year-old has placed in each of her last three attempts, which includes a last start second behind Lady Shenandoah in the Light Fingers Stakes.

Surround Stakes Winners

Contested on the same day as the Verry Elleegant Stakes, the Surround Stakes is one of two majors run on the Sydney's first Group 1 card of the calendar year.

This 1400m three-year-old fillies event is named after the champion Surround, who is the only three-year-old filly in history to win the Cox Plate in 1976, with this race first taking place in 1979.

After initially being a Group 3 and from 1986 a group two, the Surround Stakes received Group 1 status in 2018.

Hinged (2022), Sunshine In Paris (2023) and Tropical Squall (2024) have won the last three editions of the Surround Stakes.
