The Group 1 Canterbury Stakes is the second of two Group 1 races on Saturday’s Royal Randwick program, bringing together a strong line-up of established sprinters over 1300 metres.

The O'Shea & Charlton-trained galloper saluted on this meeting last year in the Randwick Guineas, and it was a luckless follow-up in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile before a spell.

It was only a short spring prep with an unlucky Tramway Stakes resumption when covering ground before bolting in with the Silver Eagle over this track and trip.

It was just an even Golden Eagle attempt before a break, although Linebacker was respected in the market there against a star in Autumn Glow.

The February trial work has been very encouraging, including a heat win here at his latest.

This looks a very suitable race on paper and we're getting an each-way price.

2026 Canterbury Stakes Next Best Bet - Lady Shenandoah

She was unbeaten throughout her three-year-old season before some mixed fortunes over the spring, which began with a luckless second in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes.

While aiming at sprinting trips last campaign with The Everest in mind, getting back over a bit more ground should be suitable going forward.

Lady Shenandoah was outsprinted by Joliestar at a key stage first-up, with the stablemate and favourite better suited at 1200m in the Expressway Stakes.

But she balanced up late and got through the line well.

Perhaps looking for further again, but the extra 100m is in her favour and she has to be among the leading chances.
