He couldn’t have been more impressive when taking out the Coolmore Stud Stakes on Victoria Derby Day.

It was disappointing that he was scratched from the Champions Sprint seven days later after becoming fractious at the barriers, but not emptying the colt on a testing surface may prove a blessing going forward.

Drawn wide in the small field looks ideal, allowing Damian Lane to find his feet early and potentially aim at the best ground late.

It was great to see Giga Kick back to form in spring with two wins from as many starts, the latest a Group 1 triumph in the Champions Sprint.

In a slightly stronger sprinting era that included the likes of Nature Strip, Eduardo and I Wish I Win, he was arguably the best of them in his three-year-old season before injury sidelined him for 12 months.

A lean 2024/25 campaign followed, but that appears behind him now.

The 1000m on firm ground is not his ideal scenario, yet he has won three of five up the Flemington straight and his most recent jump-out looked particularly sharp.

She broke the Golden Slipper curse first-up in spring before that campaign was quickly aborted after a third-place finish second-up.

The filly remains very lightly raced with just five starts overall and brings a perfect fresh record.

Her class will be tested in a hot race and this is her first attempt in weight-for-age company, although her juvenile form suggested there was very little between her and Tempted, who would be much shorter in betting if lining up here.

With Michael Freedman sending her south off two good trials and some rivals potentially having other targets deeper into the autumn, this shapes as a race she can attack on return.
