World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka faces 13th seed Amanda Anisimova in the Wimbledon semi-final, each vying for a spot in the final. Sabalenka seeks redemption after previous Grand Slam disappointments, while Anisimova aims for a maiden final appearance. Historically, Anisimova leads their head-to-head, though Sabalenka has shown recent dominance. Expect a competitive match; Anisimova's grass court prowess should make this challenging, while Sabalenka's resilience is likely to pull her through in a tight three-set battle.

A spot in the Wimbledon final is on the line as World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and 13th seed Amanda Anisimova square off on Thursday first up on Centre Court.

Sabalenka has advanced into the semi-finals in 10 of her last 11 major appearances and now will be aiming for her maiden Wimbledon final after twice falling in the final four, while Anisimova is bidding to reach her first ever Grand Slam final following her lone semi-final back at the 2019 French Open, where she led Ash Barty by a set-and-a-break before going down in three.

After losing both the Australian Open and Roland Garros finals earlier this season, Sabalenka will be determined for a shot at redemption. However, this won't be an easy match. Anisimova has defeated her on five occasions and is playing her best tennis since returning from a mental health break. The American made the final of Queen's Club before Wimbledon and has more wins on grass than any other WTA player in 2025.

It should be a cracking contest - I'm backing Anisimova to make this very competitive and cover a +4.5 games line, but Sabalenka is the World No. 1 for a reason. I think she'll find a way to dig this out in three sets, much like her quarter-final triumph over Laura Siegemund, where she recovered from 1-3 and 3-4 deficits in the decider.

Head To Head

Anisimova leads 5-3. The American won the first four meetings between the pair, but Sabalenka has since prevailed in three of the last four - including a most-recent 7-5 6-3 triumph in the French Open R16 a couple of months ago.

Sabalenka comes into this contest with a 47-8 record on the season, remaining the clear World No. 1 and winning three titles in Brisbane, Miami and Madrid.

However, the slams are what drives Sabalenka these days and her two defeats to Madison Keys and Coco Gauff at the Australian and French Opens stung.

Can Sabalenka avoid another defeat to an American deep into a slam at Wimbledon? The 27-year-old has won six of her last 10 Grand Slam semi-final matches, but is 0-2 at The Championships.

Sabalenka has been tested with each passing round so far this tournament, needing tiebreaks to get past Marie Bouzkova, Emma Raducanu and Elise Mertens in straight sets before an unexpected battle with 37-year-old Siegemund.

After dropping the opening set, Sabalenka needed to dig deep in the decider, but managed to finish strongly to complete a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in 2 hours and 54 minutes, which is the third-longest match of this year's Championships.

Anisimova heads into this showdown with a 30-12 record on the season and will make her debut in the top 10 following the completion of this tournament.

The American's highlight of the year (prior to this tournament) was winning the WTA 1000 event in Doha, while a R16 at Roland Garros, runner-up showing at Queens and quarter-final in Berlin mean Anisimova has won 11 of her last 14 matches.

Anisimova kicked off her Wimbledon campaign in style by crushing Yulia Putintseva 6-0 6-0, but she needed to take the scenic route with three-set victories over Dalma Galfi and Linda Noskova.

Still just 23 years of age, Anisimova nearly needed three sets again in her quarter-final, but managed to save five set points in the second set tiebreak to topple Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1 7-6.

Anisimova will now be aiming to overturn a 0-2 record vs World No. 1 players and go one step further than her previous Grand Slam semi-final at Roland Garros 2019, where she went down to eventual champion Barty in three.

Verdict

Anisimova has defeated Sabalenka five times and clearly has the game/belief that she can do some damage on grass against the top seed here.

I'm backing Anisimova to cover a +4.5 games line, but Sabalenka dug deep to win her quarter-final in three sets and I'm tipping a similar outcome in the semis.
