Iga Swiatek and Amanda Anisimova vie for their first Wimbledon title in a high-stakes final. Swiatek, unbeaten in Grand Slam finals, has been in dominant form, overcoming challenges since her Roland Garros loss. Anisimova has made a significant comeback, reaching her first Grand Slam final after a hiatus to focus on mental health. Despite an impressive tournament run, notably defeating Aryna Sabalenka, Anisimova faces a tough opponent in Swiatek, known for her strong backcourt play. The article predicts a Swiatek victory in straight sets, underlining her relentless performance.

It all comes down to this as either Iga Swiatek or Amanda Anisimova will capture a first Wimbledon title when they square off in the Ladies' singles final on Saturday.

Both players are fantastic stories. Swiatek has bounced back from the most difficult stage of her career to surge into the Wimbledon final for the loss of just one set and will now be aiming to improve her flawless record in Grand Slam finals to 6-0. Meanwhile, Anisimova has surged back to the top of the game after taking an eight-month break to prioritise her mental health, bulldozing her way into a maiden major final at Wimbledon, including taking the scalp of World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals.

Both players made grass court finals in the lead-up to Wimbledon (Swiatek in Bad Homburg and Anisimova at Queens) and now one will secure a first title on the surface on the biggest stage of them all. Anisimova has produced some brilliant tennis to reach a first Grand Slam final, but I have concerns she may have played 'her' final against Sabalenka. Swiatek in this sort of mood absolutely suffocates her opponents from the back of the court and at times, it can feel like there's no answers out there. Combine that with the pressure of playing a first major final and there's a danger Anisimova could be overwhelmed with the occasion. Swiatek has won all five previous Grand Slam finals she's contested and I'm backing the Pole to make it six, prevailing in clinical straight sets.

Head To Head

Surprisingly, this will be the first ever professional meeting between the pair, despite both being born in 2001.

Iga Swiatek Form

Swiatek has registered a 41-11 record on the season and is still chasing her first title of any description since Roland Garros 2024.

The 24-year-old has consistently made quarter and semi-finals over the last 12 months, but she hasn't been able to translate those runs into titles. Perhaps that changes at the biggest tournament of them all?

After seeing her 26-match winning streak snapped at Roland Garros and dropping to as low as No. 8 in the rankings, Swiatek has surprisingly rebuilt her game and confidence on grass - a surface she's traditionally struggled on.

Swiatek made the final of Bad Homberg and has gone from strength to strength, dropping just one set (vs Caty McNally in R2) to reach her maiden Wimbledon final.

The Pole made light work of potentially tricky opponents in Danielle Collins, Clara Tauson and Liudmila Samsonova before absolutely crushing Belinda Bencic 6-2 6-0 in the semi-finals.

There's plenty of milestones on the line for Swiatek here - she's aiming to become the first Polish woman in the Open Era to win the Wimbledon title, while she's also looking to join Monica Seles and Margaret Court as the only women in the Open Era to win their first six Grand Slam finals.

Amanda Anisimova Form

It's been an extraordinary last 12 months or so for Anisimova, who was ranked No. 189 this time last year.

Now, Anisimova will debut in the top 10 following this tournament. The 23-year-old made her first Grand Slam semi-final at 17 years of age at the 2019 French Open, but struggled afterwards for various reasons and opted to take an eight-month break from the sport.

After returning, Anisimova made her first WTA 1000 final in Canada last year and proceeded to capture her maiden 1000 title in Doha earlier this season.

Gradually building her game, Anisimova reached the Queen's Club final before Wimbledon, where she's now gone on to make a first major final.

The second week has been a battle, with Anisimova needing three sets in three of her last four matches - edging out Dalma Galfi, Linda Noskova and World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in deciders, while also beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straights.

Undoubtedly Anisimova's crowning moment was her sixth victory over Sabalenka in the semi-finals, where she showcased nerves of steel to close out a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in 2 hours and 37 minutes.

Verdict

Anisimova has put together a dream run, but I think it comes to an emphatic end in the final.

Swiatek is back to her ruthless best and dropped just two games vs Bencic in the semis. The Pole is a perfect 5-0 in major finals and I'm backing her in for a commanding straight sets triumph and a first Wimbledon title.
