Matteo Berrettini vs Matteo Arnaldi Tips, Prediction & Live Stream
At least one Italian named Matteo will be in the French Open semi-finals as Matteo Berrettini and Matteo Arnaldi clash in the last eight on Wednesday night in Paris.
One Italian was virtually assured of reaching the Roland Garros quarter-finals from the top quarter of the draw before the tournament, but it certainly wasn't Berrettini or Arnaldi. However, with Jannik Sinner crashing out in the heat, the pair have stepped up and taken advantage, with a huge opportunity awaiting the winner.
Both players have come back from serious injury setbacks, with Berrettini enduring countless surgeries over the last few years, while Arnaldi has recovered from a chronic foot issue that threatened to derail his career for a while there.
“This [tennis] is the love of my life, because if it wasn’t I wouldn’t be here,” Berrettini said after his R16 win over Juan Manuel Cerundolo. “After all the setbacks, all the injuries, all the bad moments, I came back once again. There were moments where it was really tough to go back and hit the ball, because I wasn’t ready and sure of my confidence.”
Arnaldi meanwhile has absolutely shattered the record for most time spent on court to reach a Grand Slam quarter-final since 1991 when data has been recorded. The Italian has fought for a staggering 17 hours and 42 minutes on court at Roland Garros to advance into his maiden major quarter-final.
| Round | Opponent & Result | Duration On Court |
|---|---|---|
| R1 | def. Tallon Griekspoor 6-7(9), 6-3, 7-6(6), 6-3 | 4hr 1m |
| R2 | def. Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 | 3hr 17m |
| R3 | def. Raphael Collignon 6-4, 6-7(5), 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(4) | 4hr 58m |
| R4 | def. Frances Tiafoe 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-4 | 5hr 26m |
Just staggering numbers and I can't see how Arnaldi backs up for another round here. This entire run has to be mentally draining too.
I think Arnaldi can keep one set close and perhaps force his ninth tiebreak of the tournament, but if Berrettini gets in front, I can see him running away with this quarter-final.

Matteo Berrettini Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 12-9
- French Open Record: 12-4
- Current Ranking: No. 105
- Career-High Ranking: No. 6 (2022)
It's been a horror run of injury setbacks for Berrettini, who recently tumbled out of the top 100 and will be forced to play qualifying at Wimbledon - if he doesn't receive a wildcard.
However, Berrettini is set to return to the top 50 after this magnificent run at Roland Garros, where he is competing for the first time since 2021, where he reached the quarter-finals before going down to Roland Garros.
The signs were there that Berrettini was capable of putting something together after he dropped a 6-0 6-0 double bagel on Daniil Medvedev in Monte Carlo and he's taken advantage of the draw collapsing around him.
Berrettini opened his campaign with a four-set win over Marton Fucsovics before easing past Arthur Rinderknech in straights. The former Wimbledon finalist then survived a five-hour epic with Francisco Comesana 7-6(3) 5-7 6-7(4) 6-4 7-6(13) before moving past a fatigued Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-3 7-6(2) 7-6(6).
Cerundolo had earlier taken care of Sinner and Martin Landaluce in back-to-back five-setters, with Arnaldi arriving at this matchup in similar fashion.
Matteo Arnaldi Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 6-6
- French Open Record: 9-3
- Current Ranking: No. 104
- Career-High Ranking: No. 30 (2024)
It's been a dream tournament for Arnaldi, who has fought his way into a maiden major quarter-final in record-breaking style.
Struggling upon his return from a foot injury, Arnaldi didn't win a tour-level match in 2026 until Rome - where he stepped up to take out Alex de Minaur before pushing Rafael Jodar.
However, that's nothing compared to what he's achieved in Paris.
Arnaldi has produced a herculean effort to reach the last eight, with the shortest amount of time he spent on court coming in his four-set win over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round at three hours and 17 minutes.
The 25-year-old edged out Raphael Collignon in a deciding set tiebreak in the third round before staging a miraculous comeback in the R16 over Frances Tiafoe, recovering from 4-1 and a double break down in the fourth set to prevail 7-6(5) 6-7(5) 3-6 7-6(3) 6-4 well after 1am local time.
