Jakub Mensik and Joao Fonseca clash for a spot in their maiden Grand Slam semi-final at Roland Garros 2026. Fonseca, highlighted by his wins over Novak Djokovic and Casper Ruud, enters as the favorite due to his stamina and powerful forehand. Mensik, despite a stellar tournament, has shown signs of fatigue and may struggle physically. Prediction leans strongly toward Fonseca to win in four sets, with the Brazilian expected to capitalize on Mensik's diminished form. Jakub Mensik vs Joao Fonseca Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

A first Grand Slam semi-final is on the line for two of the sport's brightest young talents as Jakub Mensik and Joao Fonseca square off in the Roland Garros quarter-finals on Tuesday night in Paris.

This won't be the last time we see Mensik and Fonseca squaring off in the business end of Grand Slams, with the pair set to clash for the first time at tour-level after advancing to their first major quarter-finals.

Fonseca couldn't have been more impressive, conquering the GOAT in Novak Djokovic in five and backing it up with a four-set victory over the in-form Casper Ruud. Before that, the Brazilian superstar knocked out fellow young gun Dino Prizmic in five, coming from two sets down. The 19-year-old is now the first Brazilian to reach a Grand Slam quarter-final since Gustavo Kuerten in 2004.

Meanwhile, Mensik has showcased immense fight and grit to battle his way into a first major quarter-final. The 20-year-old collapsed at the end of his five-hour epic with Mariano Navone in the second round and has somehow backed it up to dismantle Alex de Minaur and Andrey Rublev.

However, I just can't see Mensik reproducing that effort here. His body is known for breaking down and he looks to be running on empty. Fonseca might not look like the fittest bloke out there, but he's proving very durable this tournament and looks like another five-setter would be no worries at all.

But I don't think he'll need five. Fonseca's forehand is on fire and he's rising to every challenge in Paris. Mensik might be able to snatch a set, but Fonseca took advantage of a fatigued Ruud to ease to a 6-2 in the fourth victory and I can see a similar sort of pattern playing out here.
  • Fonseca has won 14 of his last 20 matches
  • Four of Fonseca's last six defeats were vs top 10 players
  • Fonseca has won 11 of his last 13 matches vs players outside the top 20
  • Mensik has a 3-9 record in his last 12 quarter-final matches
  • Mensik has seen four or five sets in five of his six previous French Open matches

Jakub Mensik Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 22-9
  • French Open Record: 5-1
  • Current Ranking: No. 27
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 12 (March 2026)

Mensik can often fly under the radar when it comes to rising youngsters, but the fact remains he's done something that the likes of Fonseca, Tien and Jodar haven't and that's win a Masters 1000 title, which he secured a teenager in Miami last year.

The Czech has dealt with some injury issues over the last 12 months, but he's been in great form for the most part this year, winning the title in Auckland, making the R16 at the Australian Open and the semi-finals in Doha, where he beat Jannik Sinner.

Lead-in form on clay wasn't spectacular, but Mensik is more than making up for lost ground at Roland Garros, reaching a first major quarter-final.

The 20-year-old looked down and out after collapsing with full body cramps following his five-set win over Navone in the second round.

However, Mensik has recovered brilliantly, coming back from a first set bagel to beat Alex de Minaur 0-6 6-2 6-2 6-3 before outlasting Andrey Rublev 6-3 7-6(6) 4-6 2-6 6-3.

One concern for Mensik is a poor first serve percentage of 55 for the tournament - something that Fonseca could exploit here.

Joao Fonseca Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 14-9
  • French Open Record: 6-1
  • Current Ranking: No. 30
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 27 (Nov 2025)

Safe to say Fonseca has recovered from the back injury that disrupted his start to the season.

Since March, the Brazilian has put together a strong 14-6 record on tour, with four of those six defeats coming against top 10 players, while the other two were against the in-form Jodar and Hamad Medjedovic.

Fonseca made the quarter-finals of Monte Carlo and Munich and now he's reached the same stage at Roland Garros.

The 19-year-old couldn't have been more impressive in toppling 24-time major champion Djokovic in a five-set classic in the third round before backing it up with a brilliant 7-5 7-6(8) 5-7 6-2 victory over Ruud in the R16, firing a whopping 51 winners.

Earlier, Fonseca recovered from two sets down to edge out fellow youngster Dino Prizmic 3-6 4-6 6-3 6-1 6-2, but he's showing no signs of fatigue.

End of the line for Mensik - this is Fonseca's time and I'm backing the Brazilian to cover and prevail in four.
