A confident Australia outfit will serve it up to the world champions, India, and go 2-0 up as the five-match T20I series heads south to Hobart

The hosts have never lost in five T20 Internationals in Hobart and come off a dominant display at the MCG has them brimming with confidence.

Bellerive Oval’s smaller boundaries and batter-friendly pitch promise a high-scoring contest, but early seam movement could again expose India’s top order.

Australia’s familiarity with the ground — and their perfect record here — gives them a clear edge, while India face the challenge of adapting to a venue they’ve never played at in this format.

Expect fireworks early, with both sides likely to attack from ball one. Australia’s PowerPlay pairing of Marsh and Head can make full use of Hobart’s compact square boundaries, while India’s hopes rest on Abhishek Sharma replicating his fluent 68 from Melbourne. If the hosts get early wickets again, it could be another long night for India.

The ‘Big Show’ Glenn Maxwell looks set to return from another injury mishap, while the local star Mitchell Owen looms as a genuine X-factor. He never really got going early on with his timing in Melbourne but did launch a massive six before chasing a wide one from Jasprit Bumrah.

Back on home turf, he’s capable of launching into a sizeable innings with totals around 180+ likely on a pitch that rewards clean hitting once set.

It is hard to write off India after their exploits in recent years and their batters outside of Sharma need to stand up, take the man from the MCG to get the visitors off to a solid start.

A big positive for India is that the destroyer from Melbourne, Josh Hazlewood, departs the Aussie squad to prepare for red-ball cricket. But with bowling depth outside of Hazlewood and favourable local conditions, Mitch Marsh’s side will take a 2-0 lead.

It was their 12th T20I win over India in 34 meetings, though India still hold the overall edge with 20 victories. The rivalry has been one of the most compelling in modern cricket, with several contests going down to the final over.

India have dominated recent bilateral series — winning the last three — but Australia’s commanding performance in Melbourne gives them great hope of breaking that streak and reasserting their strength at home. Hobart provides another opportunity for the Aussies to consolidate their momentum, while India must quickly find rhythm in unfamiliar territory to keep the series alive.

Australia’s win at the MCG was built on the back of Josh Hazlewood’s superb new-ball spell, taking 3-13 and dismantling India’s top order under cloudy skies. The veteran’s departure from the series opens the door for Mahli Beardman to make his international debut, with Nathan Ellis likely to lead the attack on his home ground. Ellis, who claimed two scalps in Melbourne, has an excellent record in Hobart conditions and is known for his accuracy at the death.

Captain Mitch Marsh continues to lead from the front, blasting a quickfire 46 to set up the chase in Game 2. Travis Head again looked dangerous at the top, while Tim David and Marcus Stoinis finished things off calmly. Matthew Short’s golden duck will sting, but his bowling utility keeps him in the XI. Glenn Maxwell’s return from injury strengthens both the batting and bowling balance, with his experience invaluable in middle overs.

The local crowd will have an eye on Mitchell Owen, who’s starred for the Hurricanes in the Big Bash and shapes as a genuine X-factor at his home ground. Expect him to play with freedom and target the shorter square boundaries. Australia’s bowling depth — featuring Ellis, Beardman, and Stoinis — should again exploit early movement before settling into defensive lines.

With their current momentum, experience across all departments, and a perfect Hobart record, Australia look primed to press their advantage. Their challenge will be maintaining intensity against an India side desperate to hit back, but the home support and conditions tilt this one in their favour.

India’s batting failed to fire at the MCG, rolled for 125 after losing early wickets to the moving ball. Only Abhishek Sharma (68) stood tall in an otherwise faltering lineup, demonstrating superb composure and clean hitting in a lone-hand innings. His positive intent and PowerPlay strike rate remain India’s best weapon, and he will again be key to setting the tone.

Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill both fell cheaply in Melbourne, but class players rarely stay quiet for long. Expect one of them to fire at Hobart, where the smaller boundaries should suit their range hitting. Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson will need to stabilise the middle order, while Rinku Singh’s finishing ability could be crucial if India bat second.

Bowling-wise, Jasprit Bumrah had a mixed night at the MCG — expensive early before finding rhythm late — but will relish the chance to hit the seam in conditions that can aid movement.
