It has been a tough season for Fritz, but stepping back onto grass has sparked a turnaround in form, with the American winning eight of his nine matches on the surface, picking up ATP 250 titles in Stuttgart and last week in Eastbourne. A quarter-finalist at Wimbledon last year, Fritz is clearly a leading contender on the lawns, but form largely goes out the window in a match like this.
Mpetshi Perricard won 10 of his 14 matches on grass last year, making a run to the R16 at Wimbledon. The Frenchman has struggled to back up his breakout season from 2024 this year, but he remains a player nobody wants to face at Wimbledon. I think Perricard can snatch a set in the lottery of tiebreaks, but Fritz' confidence should see him lift in the pressure moments and ultimately dig out a tight victory.

Fritz comes into this clash with a 25-11 record on the season, really picking things up over the last month for the short grass swing.
The American struggled on hardcourt and clay in the first half of 2025, but this current run is much-needed when you consider how many points he has to defend for the remainder of the year, including a Wimbledon quarter-final, US Open and ATP Finals runner-up finishes and a semi-final in Shanghai.
Fritz defeated Alexander Zverev in the final of Stuttgart before securing the Eastbourne silverware for a record fourth time, winning his opening three matches in a deciding set - including edging out rising star Joao Fonseca - before easing past compatriot Jenson Brooksby 7-5 6-1 in the final.
The 27-year-old has made the quarter-finals in two of his last three Wimbledon appearances, going down to Lorenzo Musetti last year.
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard Form
Mpetshi Perricard heads into this encounter with a negative 9-13 record on the season, struggling to repeat his fantastic 2024.
The 21-year-old made the Wimbledon R16 as a lucky loser last year and also picked up the ATP 500 title on the quick indoor courts in Basel, highlighting just how dangerous he is on fast surfaces.
However, Mpetshi Perricard hasn't won back-to-back tour-level matches since Brisbane at the start of the year, failing to build on a career-high ranking of No. 29 (down at No. 36 with lots of points to defend for the remainder of the year).
A return to grass hasn't helped either, with Mpetshi Perricard losing two of his three matches across Stuttgart and London.
