Teenage sensation Joao Fonseca will be aiming to make the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time when he comes up against qualifier Nicolas Jarry in the third round of Wimbledon on Friday.

There'll be a distinct South American flavour on Court 2, with Brazilian and Chilean fans out in full force to support Fonseca and Jarry in their bid to advance into the Wimbledon fourth round. It's seemingly only a matter of time before Fonseca cracks the top 10 and begins to consistently challenge for major titles, while Jarry has experienced an unlikely resurgence on grass after qualifying for the main draw and conquering top 10 star Holger Rune in five sets in the opening round.

It should be an electric atmosphere and I'm backing Fonseca to edge this. Jarry has a huge serve and is very dangerous in this sort of form, so I'm expecting a four or five-setter, which should push the match Over 38.5 total games. But when push comes to shove, I think this is Fonseca's time as we potentially edge closer towards a Fonseca vs Alcaraz quarter-final...

Fonseca heads into this contest with a 15-10 record on the season and is up to No. 47 in the live ATP rankings, cracking the top 50 for the first time.

It's been a meteoric rise for the 18-year-old - he was ranked closer to No. 150 at the start of the season, but a maiden ATP title in Buenos Aires, two Challenger titles and a third round finish at Roland Garros has propelled him up the rankings.

The Brazilian also toppled then top 10 star Andrey Rublev in the opening round of the Australian Open after qualifying.

Fonseca has navigated a tricky Wimbledon draw with ease across the opening two rounds, firstly dispatching local hope Jacob Fearnley in straight sets before overcoming Eastbourne runner-up Jenson Brooksby in four to become the youngest man to make the Wimbledon third round since Bernard Tomic in 2011.

Jarry heads into this showdown with a negative 8-13 record on the season and down at No. 143 in the world.

The Chilean suffered a major rankings freefall after hitting a career-high of No. 16 last year, which occurred after he made the Rome Masters final.

However, Jarry was struck down by physical issues and has barely won matches over the last 12 months, hence his need to play Wimbledon qualifying this year.

It could be a blessing in disguise, with Jarry breezing through qualifying without dropping a single set before coming back from two sets down to beat eighth seed Rune in five sets. Jarry was back to his dominant best in the second round, crushing another teenager in Learner Tien in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3.
