Tiafoe has an amazing record at the US Open, making the semi-finals on two occasions for 26 wins and 11 losses. That record improves to 18-2 since the start of 2020 when Tiafoe comes up against players outside the top 20.

After a disappointing 2025, Tiafoe has picked things up this season and arrived at the US Open on the cusp of the top 10.

Three ATP finals have helped the American rise back up the rankings, with Tiafoe taking the title in Berlin and finishing runner-up at the 500 event in Acapulco and the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati.

It was a slow start to the summer, with Tiafoe going out in the first round of Washington and second round of Canada, but he found his form in Cincinnati, defeating the likes of Lorenzo Musetti, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Brandon Nakashima before falling to Arthur Fils.

Tiafoe was a bit shaky in his US Open first round, needing five sets to move past the big-serving Martin Damm, but steadied to topple another big server in Japanese qualifier Rei Sakamoto, registering a 6-3 7-6(2) 7-5 victory.

Of course Vacherot burst onto the scene with that stunning Shanghai Masters title last year, but he's done a great job of establishing himself as a top 20-30 player - despite a foot injury sidelining him for a couple of months.

Vacherot produced another memorable Masters 1000 run at home in Monte Carlo earlier in the year, beating Musetti, Alex de Minaur and Hubert Hurkacz to make the semi-finals.

However, Vacherot was forced to withdraw from Roland Garros and miss Wimbledon due to that aforementioned foot injury.

The 27-year-old was struggling on a four-match losing streak ahead of the US Open, but he's found his best tennis again, defeating Aleksandar Kovacevic (6-2 6-3 7-5) and Kamil Majchrzak (6-4 4-6 7-6(3) 6-2) to make the third round on his tournament debut.
