Jovic had a match point against Gauff in their only previous meeting on the clay of Rome earlier this year, but got very tight and ultimately lost the match in three sets. The 18-year-old is undoubtedly a star of the future (she's already No. 14 in the world) and has forced a deciding set in her last four meetings with top 10 players.

However, getting over the line against the elite is proving problematic at this stage, so Gauff still has the edge in this US Open showdown.

Gauff has an 80 per cent winning rate against players outside the top 10 in Grand Slams throughout her career and she already has a US Open title under her belt - she know she can handle the pressure of these situations.

And after a tough season, Gauff has recaptured her best tennis, coming into this encounter on a nine-match winning streak following her Cincinnati title.

So Gauff is the clear favourite in my eyes, but Jovic has demonstrated her ability to trouble top 10 players - including Gauff - all year. As a result, Jovic to win a set and Over 21.5 total games appeals, with Gauff taking it in three.

It was a difficult start to the season for Gauff, but a run to the Wimbledon semi-finals proved to be the catalyst for a return to her best form.

Gauff now heads into this fourth round US Open showdown with an outstanding 18-2 record across her last 20 matches. The American followed up her Wimbledon run with another semi-final appearance in Toronto before capturing her first title of 2026 in Cincinnati.

The 22-year-old was particularly impressive in Cincinnati, winning her final 12 sets of the tournament before completing the week with a dominant 6-2 6-4 victory over Jessica Pegula in the final.

Gauff will now be looking to carry that momentum throughout the US Open, where she lifted the trophy in 2023. However, this spot has proved challenging in recent years, bowing out in the Round of 16 in 2024 and 2025.

The World No. 4 made a solid start to this year's campaign, defeating Zeynep Sonmez 6-3 6-4 in the opening round before a great performance to beat Paula Badosa 6-3 7-6(5). Gauff's level dropped in her third round win over Cristina Bucsa - especially on serve, where she landed less than 50 per cent of first serves and had six double faults. The American still managed a 6-3 6-4 win without playing her best, taking the final eight points of the match.

That victory also continued an impressive trend for Gauff, who has now won 69 of her last 73 Grand Slam matches after taking the opening set.

It's been a highly impressive breakout season for Jovic - she's played well across all surfaces and arrives at the US Open at a career-high ranking of No. 14.

Jovic started the year with a bang, making the final of Hobart before reaching her maiden Grand Slam quarter-final at the Australian Open.

The 18-year-old made the R16 of Rome and the third round of Roland Garros before a semi-final at Queen's Club and fourth round at Wimbledon on the lawns.

It wasn't the best lead-in to the US Open, with Jovic going 2-2 across Toronto and Cincinnati - but she's picked things up again in New York.

The American took out Magdalena Frech 7-5 6-3 and Fran Jones 6-4 6-4 before staging a great comeback to edge out fellow rising star Alexandra Eala 7-5 3-6 7-5 in the third round.

Jovic recovered from a 2-4 deficit in the deciding set, striking 44 winners to 27 unforced errors in what was a very high-quality match.
