Daniil Medvedev faces Alexander Zverev in the China Open quarter-finals with strong momentum, having not dropped a set in Beijing and dominating recent head-to-head encounters. Medvedev, rejuvenated after changing coaches, has beaten Zverev in 12 of their last 14 meetings, making him the favorite, especially as Zverev struggles with form and a back injury. Alexander Zverev vs Daniil Medvedev Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Daniil Medvedev will be hoping to continue his resurgent form when he squares off against second seed Alexander Zverev in the China Open quarter-finals in Beijing on Monday night.

It's been an extremely disappointing last couple of years for Medvedev - he's currently down at his lowest ranking since January 2019 at No. 18 in the world, while he hasn't won a title since Rome 2023. However, things might be turning around for the former World No. 1 in the Chinese capital. After splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara, and linking up with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has advanced into the quarter-finals without dropping a set, beating two very solid players in Cameron Norrie and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina along the way.

Meanwhile, Zverev is also enduring a poor season, but the German has somehow managed to remain inside the top three all year. Zverev suffered more setbacks during the recent Laver Cup and has been receiving injections into his back in order to compete in Bejing, surviving a torrid encounter with Corentin Moutet in his previous round where he needed to recover from a break down in the deciding set. I think this is a tremendous opportunity for Medvedev to further restore some confidence - he's absolutely dominated Zverev in recent meetings and the German is certainly nowhere near his best right now. Backing the Russian to advance into the final four.

Head To Head

Medvedev leads 13-7, but it's much more one-sided than those figures suggest, with the Russian winning 12 of the last 14 meetings - including a most-recent 7-6 6-7 6-4 victory in the semi-finals of Halle earlier this season.

Alexander Zverev Form

Zverev has put together a 47-17 record for the season coming into this encounter, remaining inside the top three throughout the year.

However, it's safe to say that Zverev hasn't been anywhere near his best for basically the entire year or since losing the Australian Open final in January to Jannik Sinner.

The German had the chance to rise to World No. 1 for the first time after Sinner's subsequent three-month suspension, but he collapsed under the pressure and hasn't recovered.

Zverev lost in the third round of the US Open to Felix Auger-Aliassime and went down in both of his Laver Cup matches against Alex de Minaur and Taylor Fritz.

The 28-year-old has got back to winning ways in Beijing, where he holds a 14-5 tournament record, beating Lorenzo Sonego in the opening round before coming back from a break down in the deciding set to edge out Moutet in the second round.

Daniil Medvedev Form

Medvedev has registered a 29-19 record for the season and remains without a title since prevailing in Rome two years ago.

There was a very real danger of Medvedev dropping out of the top 20 for the first time since 2018, but he's managed to produce some of his best tennis of the year in Beijing to stabilise for the time being.

It's obviously a much-needed run for Medvedev - he lost a ridiculous five-setter in the first round of the US Open to Benjamin Bonzi and was knocked out in the second round of Hangzhou last week by Yibing Wu.

Medvedev has now advanced into the Beijing quarter-finals in all three appearances, toppling Norrie and Davidovich Fokina in straight sets so far this tournament.

Verdict

This is a great chance for Medvedev to further restore some confidence, coming up against a player he's beaten in 12 of the last 14 meetings.

Zverev is well below his best and is dealing with a back concern - it's time for Medvedev to pick up another win over the German and advance into the final four.
