Sandown Favourite - Race 3 No. 7 Avenue Montaigne

There was strong market support for Avenue Montaigne in all three runs during her first two preparations, including a narrow debut defeat at Canterbury.

That maiden produced strong form, with both the winner and third placing runner going on to measure up in stakes company.

She resumed at Randwick-Kensington as a well-backed $3 chance, finishing fourth in a race that has since produced dual Group 3 winner Panova.

Her final run at Wyong was disappointing, but both Cranbourne jump-outs leading into this stable debut for the Grahame Begg yard have been encouraging.

Despite the good prizemoney attached, this doesn't look a strong maiden and she gets a good opportunity to kick off her Melbourne campaign in style.

LockettLED.au Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Sandown Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 9 Lady Thinkabell

This technically a rise in grade on paper, but these midweek staying races often lack depth, and the overall ratings of her rivals reflect that.

Lady Thinkabell drops sharply in weight for this assignment, carrying just 51kg after the claim from talented apprentice Jackson Radley.

That is a significant swing from her Ballarat run on March 10, where she was set a big task and still wasn't far off completing a double.

Prior to that, Lady Thinkabell broke through impressively at Kyneton, covering ground and sustaining a wide run to win by three and a half lengths.

She profiles as a progressive type, and with the slight rise in distance and a low draw in her favour, the four-year-old looks well placed here.

Thoroughbred Club of Australia Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Sandown Value Bet - Race 6 No. 2 Nation State

Nation State goes around at a big price here, coming out of a much stronger race up the Flemington straight where he never featured.

This is a significant drop in grade to Benchmark 70 level, and it is worth noting he did fail in his only previous straight-track attempt.

After his previous Flemington straight miss, which also came second-up, the son of All Too Hard rebounded third-up to win in this benchmark at Cranbourne.

His fresh run at Pakenham was better than it reads, posting the second-fastest closing sectionals of the February 19 program despite wanting to lay in and finding trouble.

He has already won at this track-and-trip and was in consistent form earlier in the season, including a Cranbourne triumph before a spell.

Sportsbet Same Race Multi Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Sandown Best Bet - Race 8 No. 15 Trapdoor

Trapdoor will need to overcome another wide draw, but he strips fitter from a strong first-up effort at Sandown over 1300m.

He ran the fastest closing sectionals in that BM66 won by Enamorada, who had a softer run in transit and that pair did clear out from the rest of the field.

The form out of that event has already held up in higher grade, with Enamorada finishing runner-up in a BM84 at Caulfield last Saturday.

That February 25 Hillside event has also produced three subsequent winners, adding further strength to that fresh reference.

With natural improvement from just his third career start and a solid foundation from his first prep, Trapdoor can go one better on Wednesday.
