Port Macquarie Tips June 14

Tecnix Refrigeration & Air Conditioning 3YO Maiden Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Port Macquarie Best Bet - Race 2 No. 4 Smashing Nova

Experience is on the side of Smashing Nova, who already has four race starts under his belt.

The gelding ended his previous preparation with a seventh-place finish at Tamworth in February, although that race has produced a number of subsequent winners.

Prior to that, he recorded three consecutive runner-up finishes at Taree, including two over 1250m.

Two of those placings came on rain-affected ground, suggesting the forecast Soft 7 surface should hold no fears.

Prepared by Kris Lees, the son of Brave Smash has tuned up for this return with two solid trials on soft ground and looks ready to break through for a deserved maiden victory.

Port Macquarie Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Polymer

Both runs this preparation have suggested Polymer is heading in the right direction.

The four-year-old resumed with a narrow defeat over 1000m on a Soft 7 track here in April.

That maiden has worked out strongly, with multiple runners from the race going on to win subsequently.

He returned from a freshen-up to break his maiden over 1200m at this venue last start.

The gelding sprinted clear to score by more than two lengths on a Heavy 9 surface and, from a favourable draw, looks capable of making it back-to-back victories.

Port Macquarie Roughie - Race 7 No. 10 Xtra Approval

Recent form does not jump off the page, but there are reasons to forgive a few of Xtra Approval's latest efforts.

His best performance this preparation came when third at Grafton at the end of March in Benchmark 82 company.

That effort came on a Good 4 surface, where he was beaten only two lengths.

Two of his three subsequent runs have been over shorter trips than he encounters on Sunday.

The rise in distance looks a positive, while the expected firmer conditions are also in his favour and he appeals as an interesting roughie in the feature.

Port Macquarie Value Bet - Race 8 No. 5 Look At Mego

Track form is a major tick here, with a win and a placing from two starts at Port Macquarie this year.

Those performances comfortably rate as her best efforts of the preparation.

The daughter of I Am Immortal heads into this race off a strong Class 1 victory over 1500m here last month.

She settled just behind the speed before scoring by just over half a length on a Heavy 9 surface.

The step to 1500m or further appeared to suit, and despite drawing wide, she looks capable of overcoming the barrier and finishing in the money again.
