Switzerland are overwhelming favourites as they open their 2026 World Cup campaign against Qatar at Levi's Stadium. The Swiss boast a strong recent record and reliable defence, while Breel Embolo, back after visa issues, is predicted to score. Qatar enter on a poor run, winless in six and struggling to score, making them likely to finish bottom of Group B. Switzerland should win comfortably, and a big scoreline is possible. Fans can catch the live stream and place bets on bet365.

Qatar vs Switzerland Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Switzerland are expected to make light work of Qatar as they begin their pursuit of a deep run at the 2026 World Cup, with the Group B clash taking place at Levi's Stadium on Saturday.

Honestly, the Swiss couldn't dream of a better opening fixture at this World Cup.

Qatar's only previous appearance at the World Cup was when they hosted the 2022 edition and they lost all three games. Julen Lopetegui's side are on a six-game winless run this year, drew 0-0 with El Salvador last time out and have won just two of their last 15 meetings with European nations. I wouldn't be surprised if they failed to score a single goal for the tournament and they are deserved favourites to finish rock bottom of Group B.

Switzerland are a sneaky good bet to go far at this tournament. As usual, they are rock solid and extremely hard to break down, but they are also equipped with a world class striker in Breel Embolo, who was cleared to enter the United States after initial visa trouble. Embolo has nine goals from his last 12 appearances for his country and will be relishing the chance to do some damage in his World Cup opener here.

I'm backing Embolo to find the back of the net at near even money, while Switzerland should be winning this game with a clean sheet and plenty room to spare - correct score backers can find some value with a big 4-0 or 5-0 win.
  • Switzerland are unbeaten in 13 of their last 14 games
  • Switzerland were one of two European countries that didn't trail at any stage during qualifying
  • Switzerland are unbeaten in their last six World Cup openers
  • Switzerland have scored exactly four goals in five of their last seven wins
  • Qatar are winless in their last six games, losing four vs the likes of Zimbabwe & Palestine
  • Qatar have failed to score in four of their last five games
  • Qatar have won just two of their last 15 games vs European nations
  • Breel Embolo has scored 24 goals for Switzerland, including nine in his last 12 games

Qatar vs Switzerland Head To Head

Qatar leads 1-0, winning the only previous meeting in a friendly back in 2018.

Qatar Form Analysis

Qatar secured their first offical qualification into a World Cup with a 2-1 win over the UAE last year, but they come into the tournament on the back of a six-game winless run.

Four defeats have come in that period and fair to say they've been shocking, going down to the likes of Zimbabwe and Palestine, along with Tunisia and Ireland.

The Maroons' final hit-out before this game was a dour 0-0 stalemate with El Salvador and it looks like they will be the whipping boys of Group B, which also features co-hosts Canada & Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Qatar Team News

Akram Afif, Yusuf Abdurisag and Edmilson Junior look to be the front three tasked with finding the goals for Qatar.

Afif was voted Asia Footballer of the Year in 2024 and actually scored against Switzerland in the only previous meeting between the sides.

Switzerland Form Analysis

Switzerland cruised into their 13th World Cup, highlighted by big home wins over the likes of Kosovo, Sweden and Slovenia by 3+ goals. They've reached the R16 at the last three World Cups and will harbour ambitions of another decent run in the knockout phase this time around.

The Swiss put together an excellent Euro 2024 competition, beating Italy before going down to England on penalties in the quarter-finals. They should be confident of topping this group and giving themselves the best possible chance of going deep.

Murat Yakin's side are unbeaten in 13 of their last 14 games, including scoring four goals in big wins over co-hosts Mexico and USA last year. Switzerland's final warm-up game resulted in a 1-1 draw with the Socceroos last week.

Switzerland Team News

Breel Embolo missed that friendly with Australia due to visa complications, but he's arrived in the United States and should take his place in the starting side.

There's plenty of experience in this Swiss side, including the likes of Manuel Akanji and captain Granit Xhaka.
