The Adelaide Racing Carnival kicks off on April 26 and two Group 1's headline Morphettville's feature meeting.
Our race-by-race preview for Saturday can be found below.
Morphettville Tips April 26
Race 1 - 12:02PM Croser Handicap Tips (1600m)
Best: 7. Regal Azmon. He's still lightly raced for a seven-year-old and Regal Azmon was a third-up winner over this distance at Caulfield last autumn.
He's been terrific in two runs back following long spell, which includes a brave fresh effort where he kept surging despite covering ground.
Regal Azmon would've won gone close on April 5 had he drawn kinder (race-fastest closing sectionals) and he carries 5kg less from that last run.
Value: 4. Makin. An ex-Singapore galloper who is now under the care of Aaron Bain & Ned Taylor, Makin can improve from his Adelaide debut.
There was some excuses when checked in the run via his Listed Matrice Stakes attempt and it's worth noting that he had no prior first-up form.
Also, Makin has never salutred below 1400m and via a subsequent trial, he worked better than See You In Heaven (five-time Group winner).
Race 2 - 12:37PM Sportsbet Breeders' Stakes Tips (1200m)
Best: 1. Legacy Bound. Mark Zahra bolted in on Growing Empire via last year's Breeder's Stakes and he's aboard this impressive debut winner.
A strong two-year-old from the Robbie Griffiths yard, Legacy Bound was dominant at Ballarat and he was each-way odds despite some impressive jump-out's.
The runner-up (Maldini) franked that April 2 form with a breakthrough win at his next start and there isn't much depth to this Group 3.
Value: 10. Damelli. The debut was okay, where Damelli was slow away before racing keenly and she loom into that March 22 event before tiring late.
She followed that up with a sixth-of-ten finish in the Listed Dequetteville Stakes (second-fastest last 800m/600m and 400m of the race).
Going off her two five-furlong performances, getting up to 1200m should suit at start three and she should continue to furnish with more racing.
Race 3 - 1:12PM Sportsbet John Hawkes Stakes Tips (1100m)
Best: 3. Sans Doute. Her 2024 spring fell away sharply following third-place finish on return, but there's been encouraging signs in two runs this year.
Sans Doute was freshened-up after an even return in the Oakleigh Plate, while her second-up run was good when wide and against the track pattern.
She ran the second-fastest last 400m of March 29 Flemington meeting and the mare worked well in a recent jump-out, which Blake Shinn sticks from.
Value: 4. Volcanic Express. This is interesting placement by David Jolly, who backs up Volcanic Express from an eye-catching Listed win at Oakbank.
Blinkers also come off after being applied for that second-up attempt and Volcanic Express got a big ratings boost from that latest triumph (68 to 88).
The lightly raced five-year-old still has upside, with Volcanic Express start for just start 11 on Saturday and this big sprinter does have some X factor.
Race 4 - 1:47PM PFD Food Services Chairman's Stakes Tips (2000m)
Best: 10. Lavalier. He showed potential over a long first prep, which includes a third behind Evaporate (Group 2 winner that prep) at The Valley.
This Godolphin three-year-old is well bred, with Lavalier a half-brother to five stakes winners, which includes Epaulette and Helmet (Group 1 winners).
The return run was better than it reads and following a flat second-up effort, his last outing at Sandown suggests that the youngster is back on track.
Value: 13. Stirrup Cup. He would've been a good thing licked at Gawler in November, where Stirrup overcame trouble and finished the prep with a win.
The gelding relished the rise in distance second-up on April 9, where he launched from the rear in a race that's produced two subsequent winners.
This is much harder, but Stirrup Cup is a progressive three-year-old who is heading in the right direction and getting to 2000m should suit third-up.
Race 5 - 2:22PM Sportsbet Tobin Bronze Stakes Tips (1200m)
Best: 8. Sabaj. He was unbeaten before contesting the Listed Morphettville Guineas, where Sabaj had to settle for runner-up as an odds-on fav.
A fast-run mile took away some of his late brilliance in that March 10 outing and his prior victory over 1525m was recorded off a slower speed.
Sabaj has been freshened-up for this Group 2 assignment and with three-year-old perhaps more effective over shorter trips, he can bounce back.
Value: 7. Sweethearted. This son of Brave Smash has been unsuited in both autumn appearances and he's still performed well on each occasion.
Sweethearted ran the fastest last 400m of the entire Flemington program on March 29, where he was working home in the inferior lanes out wide.
He then got back on a leaders day at Bendigo (second-fastest last 400m of the card), while his first prep wins were recorded third and fourth-up.
Race 6 - 2:57PM Sportsbet Queen Of The South Stakes Tips (1600m)
Best: 8. Private Legacy. Private Legacy returns to scene of her Australasian Oaks placing last year and she was only a stride off winning that Group 1.
Her spring fell away after a Group 3 placing second-up and after being well-held via her March 15 return, she was luckless in the Emancipation Stakes.
It's a very open race to start the Quaddie and with one trial followed by two runs, Private Legacy could easily be peaking for Queen Of The South.
Value: 4. Jennilala. Four of her five victories have come first-up, so the gap between runs following her March 9 resumption could be a positive.
Jennilala is no stranger to Adelaide, with the Shalaa winning the 2023 Auraria Stakes at Morphettville before a third in the Australasian Oaks.
She's completed a solid jump-out since the Matron Stakes victory and in a race lacking speed, Jennilala could get a cosy run in the first few pairs.
Race 7 - 3:37PM Sportsbet Australasian Oaks Tips (2000m)
Best: 2. Benagil. It was just an even return effort from Benagil, but she quickly progressed second-up to win the VOBIS Guineas at Caulfield, where she sustained a long run from off a slow speed.
That form has stood up through Athanatos, who bolted at Flemington via his next appearance before recording a runner-up finish as an odds-on fav in the Port Adelaide Guineas.
Benagil ran into a very smart Treasurethe Moment last time out when contesting the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes over this distance and she's completed a subsequent tick-over trial.
Next Best: 14. Horizons. This prep hasn't gone to plan for Horizons, who found nothing but trouble last time out when contesting the Auraria Stakes, which is the traditional lead-up to the Australasian Oaks.
She's by The Autumn Sun, who sired the trifecta in last year's Australasian Oaks and as a late three-year-old who is now deep into her third campaign, getting to 2000m is a positive.
The Sydney-based filly has had two looks at Morphettville and while 1600m proved a touch sharp via her Adelaide debut on March 29, that third-up effort was a pass mark.
Value: 9. Polymnia. She had her chance in the Adrian Knox Stakes when runner-up as a well-backed fav, however, it was another solid run from Polymnia and she did breakthrough the start prior.
That Sydney form should up here, with the Adrian Knox Stakes producing both second and third in the Australian Oaks, while Belle Detelle was also competitive in that 2400m feature.
While her winning strike-rate isn't flash, her only time out of the top four was a fifth-of-fourteen finish over 1200m last prep and she hasn't missed the quinella this campaign.
Race 8 - 4:12PM Sportsbet Robert Sangster Stakes Tips (1200m)
Best: 6. A Little Deep. Ciaron Maher has trained two of the last three winners of this race and he's clearly aimed A Little Deep at this Group 1, with the mare arriving here off a return win at Flemington.
Five of her six victories have come either first or second-up and her career highlight came second-up last campaign when saluting at Listed level over this distance at Moonee Valley.
The placegetters there were Arkansaw Kid, who beat a subsequent Group 1 winner at his next start, while Desert Lightning (third) won a Group 3 before two competitive Group 1 showings.
Next Best: 2. Stretan Angel. The four-year-old brings the best form references to this fillies and mares contest, with Group 1 placings to open her prep in fields that included Skybird, Joliestar, Headwall and Mazu.
While she was out of the money last time out when fourth-of-nine in the William Reid Stakes, Jimmysstar (All Aged Stakes winner last Saturday) finished third in that 1200m Group 1.
Stretan Angel has completed a solid jump-out since that March 22 outing, while she's recorded a win and three seconds (one at Group 1 level) from five starts at Morphettville.
Value: 14. Ameena. The Anthony & Sam Freedman stable have aimed Ameena for a fresh tilt the Robert Sangster Stakes and with three autumn jump-outs completed, she'll be ready to fire on return.
Three of the last seven winners of this race have been three-year-old's and that includes Shoals, who won the Robert Sangster Stakes first-up for Anthony Freedman back in 2018.
Ameena has a perfect first-up record and after saluting fresh over 1200m at Randwick last campaign, she wasn't as dynamic later in the prep when stretching out to seven furlongs.
Race 9 - 4:52PM Grand Syndicates Handicap Tips (1200m)
Best: 11. Dobbinair. The Shayne & Chelsea Cahill yard have a progressive horse in Dobbinair, who was given time after a Balaklava debut miss last winter.
A long-striding son of Grunt, Dobbinair furnished with decent break and he rewarded the patience when recording victories at starts two and three.
He was spelled after a January 4 success and he's down in grade off a Listed attempt on April 12, where he wasn't disgraced and 1200m suits now.
Value: 2. Platinum Wolf. We'll get a much better gauge on where Platinum Wolf is at after Saturday's run, where the extra 100m is a tick for the grey.
With 60kg over 1100m, the six-year-old was never in contention via his April 12 return, although he should've finished a little closer (held-up).
Platinum Wolf might be a run short, but he's never been out of the money in four second-up outings and he's been competitive in stronger company.
