A narrow defeat on debut at this venue in January suggested Didie's Meadow had above-average ability.

Competing over 1183m on a Good 4 surface, the filly was ridden cold before travelling strongly into the race and only just missing.

The three-year-old disappointed when stepped up to 1320m at Lismore the following month, finishing third as a $1.24 favourite after racing closer to the speed on a wet track.

She's since trialled well ahead of this return, including a runner-up finish here a week ago.

The drop back in distance looks ideal, Nash Rawiller takes the ride for the first time, and representing a stable that has enjoyed a successful carnival, she's the one to beat.

Grafton Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 2 Goodonya Ausbred

Consistency has been the hallmark of Goodonya Ausbred, who has finished runner-up in both race appearances.

Both starts have come at Coffs Harbour, most recently when beaten less than a length over 1305m a fortnight ago.

The three-year-old raced keenly in the early stages on a Heavy track after jumping from an inside barrier before sticking on well to the line.

That form has already been franked, with fourth-placegetter Awarded Glory winning at Grafton a week ago.

The rise to this distance looks a positive, any track downgrade holds no fears, and despite drawing wide, he looks capable of breaking through for Noel Mayfield-Smith.

Bjorn Baker holds a strong hand in the South Grafton Cup, with preference for Hollywood Hero.

An impressive first preparation saw Bails record two wins from her opening four starts.

The latest of those victories came over 2000m at Murwillumbah in a Class 1 & Maiden Plate before she signed off with a runner-up finish at the same venue.

The mare resumed with a respectable effort at the Gold Coast last month, where 1400m looked short of her best and she was beaten under four-and-a-half lengths on a wet track.

That race has already produced two subsequent winners, with both the runner-up and the 12th-placegetter scoring at their next starts.

The daughter of Pierro should strip fitter second-up, the rise in trip is a major positive, and she looks capable of giving Matthew Dunn another carnival winner.
