Ballarat Tips July 12

Ballarat Electrical Company Maiden Plate Tips (Race 2)

Ballarat Roughie - Race 2 No. 5 Lady In Red

Experience could prove valuable here, with Lady In Red the most seasoned runner in the field, having already made seven race appearances.

Two of those starts have come on wet tracks, producing fourth-place finishes on both occasions, including when beaten four-and-a-half lengths in an 1100m maiden at Stawell three starts ago.

The filly was ridden cold that day on a Soft 7 surface, with similar tactics employed in both subsequent appearances on the Ballarat synthetic.

While she failed to feature over 1200m here last time, the drop back in distance and return to turf look positive.

With a genuine tempo expected, she can give a bold sight under Neil Farley despite meeting some less-exposed rivals.

Evergreen Turf BM66 Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Ballarat Value Bet - Race 4 No. 9 Big Sister Ava

A maiden victory over 2000m at Stawell rounded out Big Sister Ava's first preparation in December after three encouraging runs on Good tracks.

The daughter of Puissance De Lune returned with a solid third over 1500m at this circuit last month in a Benchmark 0-62 handicap.

Settling back in the field, the grey made good ground despite racing wide from barrier nine and should strip fitter for that first-up effort.

The rise to 1700m is another positive for the mare, who looks capable of taking another step forward.

Ciaron Maher scratched her from a Sale engagement on Thursday to head here instead, and she looks capable of making that decision count.

Hygain Edge BM66 Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Ballarat Best Bet - Race 6 No. 5 Zorro's Flight

Previous form at this trip reads strongly, with Zorro's Flight winning three of five starts over the distance.

The four-year-old was last seen in a Benchmark 62 at Sale a fortnight ago, where he charged home after settling back in the field before being awarded the race by the stewards.

The Heavy 8 conditions suited on that occasion, and another testing surface is expected to play to his strengths.

That form received a timely boost when the fifth horse won at Sale on Thursday.

Originally entered for a metropolitan assignment at Sandown on Wednesday, connections instead opted for this race, and the rise to Benchmark 66 company looks well within reach.

Ballarat Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Endless Summer

Strong juvenile form in Japan included a placing at Group 3 level on just his second race start.

After more than nine months on the sidelines, the gelding resumed with a respectable fifth on the Kensington track at Randwick when making his Australian debut for Chris Waller in April.

The son of Al Ain has since impressed in three jump-outs over the past month, appearing to handle wet ground well at Burrumbeet.

A further hit-out at St Arnaud last week should have him ready for his return.

Now commencing his first campaign for Andrew Bobbin, the drop to country grade looks a significant positive, and he appeals as the horse to beat first-up.
