McGregor (22-6) became one of the biggest stars in combat sports after an incredible rise through the featherweight ranks. Following his UFC debut in 2013, he defeated Holloway before capturing interim featherweight gold and famously stopping Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds to unify the title.

He later added the lightweight championship by dismantling Eddie Alvarez, becoming the first fighter in UFC history to simultaneously hold belts in two divisions.

Since then, however, his career has stalled. Defeats to Nate Diaz, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier, combined with an extended absence from competition, have dramatically altered the landscape. His only UFC win since late 2016 came in a 40-second finish of Donald Cerrone back in January 2020.

Returning after more than five years on the sidelines presents a massive challenge, particularly against an opponent who has remained a fixture at the highest level.

Meanwhile, Holloway (27-9) has built one of the most accomplished résumés in UFC featherweight history. After losing to McGregor early in his career, the Hawaiian pieced together a remarkable 13-fight winning streak to capture the featherweight championship in 2016.

He defended the belt with consecutive stoppage victories over Jose Aldo before dominating Brian Ortega and cementing himself among the division's all-time greats.

Although Holloway has fallen short in several title fights against Alexander Volkanovski and Ilia Topuria, he has consistently rebounded with impressive performances. His résumé over recent years includes victories over Arnold Allen, Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier, proving he remains capable of beating world-class opposition.

Even in defeat, Holloway has continued facing championship-calibre fighters, ensuring he enters UFC 329 battle-hardened rather than rebuilding against lesser competition.
