The 2026 Townsville 500 promises high drama as Broc Feeney, leading the Supercars championship by just 15 points over Matt Payne, is strongly favored to secure both pole position and a race win. With only three sprint rounds left, every race holds major championship implications. The field has been highly competitive with nine winners so far, yet Ford has maintained race dominance. Feeney’s proven qualifying speed and consistency make him the top pick to bolster his Sprint Cup lead, though Matt Payne and Cam Waters remain poised to challenge.

Townsville 500 Preview & Predictions

Broc Feeney is tipped to return to the top step in Townsville, while Matt Payne continues his charge towards the Sprint Cup in what shapes as the biggest Supercars weekend of the season so far.

With just 15 points separating the championship rivals and only three sprint rounds remaining, every race now carries Finals implications.

The NTI Townsville 500 arrives after one of the most competitive starts to a Supercars season in recent memory. Through 19 races we've seen nine different winners, 10 pole sitters and 14 different podium finishers, while Ford has remarkably won every race despite Chevrolet and Toyota regularly challenging for victories.

Townsville's Reid Park Street Circuit has become one of the championship's most unpredictable venues. The combination of concrete walls, heavy braking zones and demanding tyre management regularly rewards drivers who can qualify well and stay out of trouble. Last season Brodie Kostecki claimed his breakthrough DJR victory before Broc Feeney swept the weekend's remaining two races, proving momentum can change quickly across the three-race format.

While Feeney still leads the championship, Matt Payne has been the form driver over the past month, outscoring the Triple Eight ace by 54 points across the last 10 races. Cam Waters also arrives with renewed confidence after Darwin, while Brodie Kostecki looks ready to rebound after illness ended his Northern Territory weekend early.

Key Townsville 500 Stats

  • Broc Feeney leads Matt Payne by just 15 championship points.
  • Ford has won all 14 of 19 Supercars races contested in 2026.
  • Nine different race winners and 10 different pole sitters have emerged this season.
  • Last year's Townsville weekend produced victories for Brodie Kostecki and Broc Feeney (twice).

Supercars Townsville Qualifying Tips

Qualifying has become increasingly important as the Sprint Cup battle tightens, and Broc Feeney looks well placed to strike first. Triple Eight may have endured an inconsistent Darwin weekend, but the team traditionally responds quickly and Feeney's ability to maximise one-lap pace remains among the best in the field.

Reid Park rewards precision and confidence over the kerbs, two areas where Feeney has consistently excelled. Expect Triple Eight to unload with improvements after the Darwin disappointment and put the #88 Mustang back on the front row.

Pole Position Prediction: Broc Feeney

Supercars Townsville Race Tips

This weekend feels like another heavyweight battle between Broc Feeney and Matt Payne. Payne has arguably been the quicker driver over the past month, but pit lane mistakes have cost him multiple victories and potentially the championship lead. Feeney, meanwhile, continues to extract maximum points even when outright speed isn't there.

With Triple Eight expected to bounce back and Townsville historically suiting Feeney, we're backing the championship leader to respond. Cam Waters should continue his resurgence after finally breaking through in Darwin, while Kostecki shapes as another genuine race-winning threat if DJR rediscover their 2025 Townsville speed.

Race Winner Prediction: Broc Feeney
