Morphettville Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 3 Extinguish

It did take some time for the penny to drop with Extinguish, who broke her maiden on stable debut for the Michael Hickmott yard in April last year before a spell.

She recaptured winning form in December, rounding out that campaign with back-to-back victories.

While 1200m was expected to be on the short side fresh on June 20, which was her first look at a testing track in that Heavy 10 appearance, she should have won.

Having been hampered at the start and forced back when also crowded for room early, she then found traffic at stages in the run before launching late down the outside to only just miss on the line, recording the fastest last 200m of the meeting in the process.

Not only does she draw kinder second-up on Saturday, but in a slightly easier assignment she now carries 2kg less after the Rose Hammond claim, and the apprentice can settle Extinguish much handier to the speed.

Morphettville Roughie - Race 5 No. 8 Take A Pick

Both the June 15 trial and stable debut 12 days later were better than they read for Take A Pick, who is now under the care of Sarah Rutten.

The son of Lucas Cranach did finish sixth-of-six in a 1000m heat before the recent return, but he was quite good past the line there.

Over 1400m first-up, he was taken back from a wide barrier and never came into winning calculations, but picked off runs from an impossible position to finish seventh-of-14.

That was certainly a pass mark on return, and while the form suggests he'll need even further in time, with his last victory coming over a staying trip last winter, he is a fresh winner over seven furlongs, and the extra 150m brings him further into contention.

It's also a race that's a touch weaker than what he saw here a fortnight ago, while veteran jockey Jason Holder remains in the saddle after riding a double at Murray Bridge last Saturday, which included a winner for Sarah Rutten.

Morphettville Best Bet - Race 6 No. 5 Tobikko

It's absolutely D-day here for Tobikko, who has been costly for punters with defeats at short quotes in his past two assignments.

The Philip Stokes-trained three-year-old rounded out his first campaign with a maiden triumph at start two and, despite putting the writing on the wall in a handy three-year-old affair first-up on May 23, he was beaten as an odds-on favourite second-up at Murray Bridge, where he over-raced and never settled.

The son of Hellbent should then have won a similar event to this a fortnight ago, with the tactics a touch too negative from an inside draw, leaving him further back than he needed to be.

Despite storming home, Tobikko just missed Bardigrub, over whom he now has a weight swing, and that pair cleared right away from their rivals in the June 27 clash.

With a few more favours in transit, he can go one better under Harry Grace, who will be eager to atone.

Morphettville Value Bet - Race 9 No. 4 The Cosmic One

This is a tougher assignment for The Cosmic One, who steps up to Saturday metropolitan company.

He's a lightly raced type who has been getting by on raw ability to date, including the June 26 win at Balaklava in a 1200m Class 1 that rated very well for the program.

The gelding relished the Soft 7 surface when leading throughout, although he remains a lightly raced type who is still learning the caper.

He could easily be unbeaten, having been heavily backed on debut over 1050m on September 3, where he was slow away from a wide draw, before atoning at start two with a breakthrough victory on the Parks circuit despite still doing plenty wrong.

While there are other on-speed influences, he's expected to settle handy from barrier two under Ben Price, who was aboard for last month's fresh triumph.
