Randwick Tips July 11

Midway Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Randwick Roughie - Race 3 No. 11 So Rebellious

You can effectively treat the June 27 resumption as another trial, where So Rebellious was sent out at a massive price in a strong BM72 that was dominated closer to the speed by Tarzing and Big Papa, a progressive quinella who cleared out from their rivals.

There was plenty more depth to that field, with Cherish Me finishing just ahead of this colt after a previous metro win, while Konsa had also won his prior start, and last-placegetter Royal Flare had shown plenty of talent earlier in his career by winning two of his first three starts.

Damien was also in that June 27 line-up, arriving off a second in a good form race, and he was also competitive multiple times at stakes level over summer.

Not only is this much easier coming back to Midway level second-up, but the son of Rebel Dane can also settle closer from a lower draw, with the rise in distance a positive and no rise in the weights from his fresh run.

So Rebellious contested some handy races earlier in his career, broke through deep into his summer prep, and his trial work leading into this campaign was quite good.

Randwick Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 1 Benevac

An in-form Ciaron Maher prepares Benevac, a three-year-old with just the one win to his name, albeit from only nine starts, with his two finishes outside the top four coming in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas and a Listed race on debut.

He has been knocking on the door in three starts this time in and probably wins second-up with any luck after covering ground in a narrow defeat at Rosehill.

Benevac was then beaten only a small margin again third-up on June 27, where the winner pounced late carrying 6.5kg less than he did.

The gelding has drawn wide in all three runs this campaign, but now gets a low barrier on Saturday in a race no harder than those he has been contesting.

He also receives handy weight relief courtesy of Siena Grima's 2kg claim, with the apprentice following up her June 27 treble with a Rosehill double last Saturday.

Asahi Super Dry Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Randwick Value Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Tambeloa

This colt landed the cash for us at a good price when breaking through last winter, and after a short break during his early three-year-old prep, he was placed aggressively last spring without being disgraced in stakes company.

The last of those runs produced a fourth-of-13 finish in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes before a freshen-up ahead of a summer campaign that opened with three placings, including a Group 3 third over this distance.

While this campaign didn't work out late in autumn, there were excuses in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate after he covered ground throughout.

He then resumed in a Midway here on June 20 following five weeks between runs and a tick-over trial, making late ground into fourth in a performance he will only improve from.

The 1800m suits at this stage of the campaign, and he's superbly placed at the weights, dropping to 52.5kg after Molly Fitzgerald's claim while also drawing better this time around.

Robrick Lodge Eremein Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Randwick Favourite - Race 8 No. 3 Cold Brew

The main queries on Saturday are stepping from 1300m to a mile, which is never straightforward, especially at his first attempt at the distance, while he also rises 2kg in the weights.

Cold Brew does, however, find a weak BM78, and many of his main rivals have either had their chances or reached their ceiling, whereas he remains a lightly raced gelding with upside.

He has already built a tidy record of four wins and four seconds from 10 starts, including an on-speed second-up victory on June 27 after a good first-up run over 1100m, which is short of his best.

Now third-up from a lengthy spell, there should only be further improvement to come from the son of Pierro.

He showed an affinity for both good and testing tracks last winter, recording a dominant second-up maiden win on a Good 4 before rounding out that campaign with a dominant Heavy 10 victory at Rosehill over seven furlongs despite covering ground.

TAB Handicap Tips (Race 10)

Randwick Best Bet - Race 10 No. 3 Aye Aye Captain

The key form reference for the finale is the fillies and mares BM78 over 1000m at Rosehill on June 27, with Swiftie Harriet, Bella Corazon and Aye Aye Captain all contesting that race.

The Les Bridge-trained galloper clearly produced the run of the race, having been forced back from a wide draw and never getting into winning contention before finishing just over two lengths from a quinella that enjoyed all the favours.

Aye Aye Captain also recorded the second-fastest last 400m of the meeting, suggesting there was plenty of merit in the performance, and she draws better here.

She could also be the runner with the most upside, remaining lightly raced for a rising five-year-old with only eight starts to her name.

With a freshen-up following her return from a long spell and two June runs under her belt, there should still be some improvement to come, while that latest effort followed a stylish June 3 victory on a Soft 7.
