It's a bit of a nothing race. Dagger's perhaps a default favourite as a result, although, to be fair, the market elect is racing consistently.

The four-year-old was a comfortable winner in this grade on the Gold Coast and has placed twice subsequently in stronger company.

He does face a rise in the weights, even with the claim, which has to be a query for this extra distance attempt, especially given he failed at his only previous try over the mile.

A galloper who can push forward with Dagger and give a sight on the speed is Mississippi Prince, whose two winter trials have been fine without his blinkers applied, and that gear is back on for race day.

While he doesn't exactly win out of turn these days, he's been competitive multiple times in stronger company, there was merit to both of his May runs without figuring, and he was consistent throughout autumn and winter last year, highlighted by a BM85 win at Eagle Farm.

Although he does draw wide, this may set up well for Larado, with plenty of speed engaged for this Class 3 set weights affair.

As a result, jockey Daniel Moor will likely aim to settle him off the speed and produce the four-year-old late.

The Matthew Hoysted-trained galloper brings an impressive record of three wins and a second from five starts, and there's been heavy market respect on most occasions, starting an odds-on favourite in all but one appearance, when he was a $2.50 favourite in winning a BM70 in January.

That victory came over a field that included Savagery Vibe, who was a Listed winner in May, while Larado was heavily backed again on February 14 before a break, with Daniel Moor noting that the deteriorating track perhaps worked against him.

Larado is a big type who has already carried this impost to success in the past, so the 60kg is no issue, and with the right run in transit, he can strike fresh on Saturday.

This son of Harry Angel has always improved with a run under the belt.

While there's a decent gap between runs after resuming on June 8, he saluted second-up off a similar pattern earlier in the season after failing on a Heavy track at Flemington to take out a 1000m sprint in December, getting the better of Beast Mode, who was in great form at that stage.

There was also merit to the winter return last month, when he worked early on a fast speed and knocked up late as a result, with that fresh performance following some encouraging trials.

This time, from a low draw, he'll do no work in the run and can potentially settle box-seat under apprentice Jason McMurray, who takes 2kg off with his claim.

It's a soft map for the five-year-old and a very winnable assignment for Chinqui, with an each-way price available.

Sky Racing Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Doomben Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Larrikin Rogue

As his winning strike rate reflects, Larrikin Rogue is a horse who needs luck in running.

That has eluded him in two May appearances, finding trouble in a nice Gold Coast return when placed on May 9.

He should have finished much closer than eighth-of-15 when second-up on May 23, where he was held up in the straight when awkwardly placed on heels and got home without threatening in restricted room.

This is a much easier assignment, finding himself in No Metro Win company, bringing comfortably the best string of exposed form in the field, which is effectively midweek quality, and Larrikin Rogue also won a trial here on June 18, where he jumped a little cleaner.

He's the one to beat if he gets the breaks, while a roughie to include is the resuming Prince of Sorts, whose fresh form doesn't read well, but his June trials have been good, he has strong stats around this distance range, and is tactically versatile.
