The 2022 Turnbull Stakes looks a quality 2000m set weights + penalties event, run at Flemington on Saturday, where we see three horses all contend for favouritism.

Cox Plate and Caulfield contender Gold Trip (barrier 10) has his third run on Australian soil, last start running third with 60kg in the Naturalism Stakes.

Australian Cup and Tancred winner Duais (barrier five) returns to the scene of her autumn success which saw her as one of Australia's best middle distance/staying types.

Inspirational Girl (barrier 13) finished second in the Feehan Stakes last start behind Mr Brightside, and although that form did not measure up to the likes of Zaaki and I'm Thunderstruck in the Underwood, these horses are not at that level.

Prodonfo (barrier seven) has to be a chance with his very strong Anamoe and Fangirl formlines from Sydney while Knight's Order (barrier 14) looks a smokey who can lead all the way.

Turnbull Stakes Winners

The Turnbull Stakes was first run 1865, making it one of Australia’s oldest 2000m races.

Named after the former Victorian Racing Club Chairman Richard Turnbull, this Group One has since changed names on a few occasions but the original name was reinstated in 1948.

It has been taken out by some of Australia’s finest middle-distance horses including Ajax, Rising Fast, Sunline and Winx.

The Turnbull Stakes is a great race in its own right it is considered one of the main form lines leading into the big three of Victorian racing, the Cox Plate, Caulfield & Melbourne Cup.
