Chris Waller has a strong hand in The Metropolitan, with seven runners in the final field for Saturday's staying feature from Royal Randwick.

Race favourite Durston (barrier 8) is among those acceptances, a seven-year-old import who arrives off wins in the Wyong and Newcastle Cups.

Kukeracha (barrier 1), No Compromise (barrier 5), Surefire (barrier 13), Francesco Guardi (barrier 15), Chalk Stream (barrier 2) and Hameron (barrier 7) are the remaining runners from the premier yard.

Stockman (barrier 4) carries the topweight of 56.5kg, a three-time stakes winner from the Joe Pride stable who appears ready to peak following a fourth-place finish in the Kingston Town Stakes.

Ciaron Maher & David Eustace have dual representation through Le Don De Vie (barrier 3) and Mankayan (barrier 12), while Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott prepare Sacramento (barrier 9) and Grove Ferry (barrier 14).

15 runners have accepted for The Metropolitan, which is the premier staying event of the Sydney Spring Carnival.

The Metropolitan Winners

The Metropolitan was first run in 1863 and has remained as one of Australia’s biggest staying races, despite not having the quality of the Sydney and Melbourne Cups.

Run at Royal Randwick over 2400m, 'The Metrop' is the premier staying affair of the Sydney Spring Carnival and this major generally attracts a competitive field.

Come Play With Me (2019), Mirage Dancer (2020) and Montefilia (2021) have won the last three editions of The Metropolitan.
