Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers Big Bash League Expert Tips
Sydney had every chance to win their opener against Perth at Optus Stadium but were caught at the death by some solid Scorchers batting. They are now tipped to bounce back in their home opener to beat the Adelaide Strikers.
Adelaide were the worst team in BBL14 finishing last on the ladder with 3 wins from 10 games. They won just 1 game away from Adelaide Oval and were ranked 6th in opposition totals on the road allowing an average of 170 runs per game. With bat in hand they were one of the higher ranked teams hitting the 2nd most average 6’s per game away from home.
The Sixers were caught out a bit in their opener, the bounce of the Perth pitch grabbing important wickets. But you could see the potential in the team that has been a perennial performer over the last few years, both with the bat and the ball.
Ben Dwarshuis gave up a chunk of runs but he also nabbed two wickets, following on from a fantastic BBL14 campaign where he took 14 wickets from 11 games with a 9.15 economy rate.
Take the Sixers to win outright, you are getting good numbers on Jack Edwards over 1.5 wickets and Adelaide over 13.5 fours in the game.
- Adelaide won just 3 of 10 games last season, only 1 on the road.
- Sydney have won 4 of the last 5 games between these two teams.
- Jack Edwards took two wickets in the most recent matchup with Adelaide.
- The Strikers averaged 13.6 fours per game on the road last season despite their poor win/loss record. Sydney allowed 19.7 fours per game to opponents at home.
The Sixers opened their campaign on Sunday with a narrow loss on the road in Perth in a storm affected matchup. Both teams had just 11 overs to play after massive storms ripped through Perth, surprisingly the pitch and outfield held up well.
Sydney could not have had a worse start with opener Daniel Hughes going for a duck and Pakistani import Babar Azam out for 2 runs just a few balls later. Josh Philippe steadied the ship and Jack Edwards topscored with an unbeaten 46 with 8 boundaries off 21 balls.
The Sixers also struck early with the ball, Charlie Stobo grabbing Mitch Marsh’s wicket for a duck but it took too long to reign in Cooper Connolly who smashed 59 off 31 including 5 sixes. Ben Dwarshuis picked up 2 wickets from 3 overs but gave up 36 runs.
This will be Adelaide’s first game of the BBL15 season. Last year they finished last on the ladder with 3 wins from 10 games played. They won just 1 of 5 games on the road and were 0-4 when batting first on the road.
