Melbourne Renegades vs Brisbane Heat Big Bash League Tips - Heat on fire in their BBL opener

The Brisbane Heat aims to kick off their BBL|15 season with a win against Melbourne Renegades at GMHBA Stadium. Despite their disappointing performance in BBL|13, the Heat have bolstered their lineup by signing Pakistan's Shaheen Shah Afridi, enhancing their fast-bowling prowess. Nathan McSweeney, noted for his recent batting success, is set to dominate with runs and fours. The Renegades, although having strengthened their squad with new additions like Jason Behrendorff and Caleb Jewel, may struggle against a well-prepared Heat. Key players like Afridi and McSweeney are expected to shine in this matchup.

Melbourne Renegades vs Brisbane Heat Big Bash League Expert Tips

The Brisbane Heat will start off their BBL|15 campaign with a victory on the road at GMHBA Stadium against the Melbourne Renegades.

Brisbane failed to impress in their defence of their BBL|13 title, but made a strong move in the offseason bringing in Pakistan quick Shaheen Shah Afridi, giving them a stacked fast-bowling lineup for BBL|15.

There may not be a more in-form batsman in the series than Nathan McSweeney, who just put 226 on the English Lions for Australia A, after scoring no less than 49 runs for both South Australia and the PM’s XI. Yes, it isn’t the same form but confidence is high for the top order batsman and should see him have a gallant start to this year’s Big Bash campaign.

The ‘Gades made a big move bringing in Jason Behrendorff and more importantly for them in my opinion Caleb Jewel to help boost their poor batting form from last season. However, I don’t see it being enough to get past a pretty stacked Brisbane Heat.

The Heat quicks will be a bother and I am jumping early on Shaheen Shah Afridi to be a top contender for most wickets this series and start off his campaign with at least a couple in the opener.

  • Brisbane Heat have won 2 of the last 3 games against the Renegades.
  • Nathan McSweeney has scored no less than 49 runs in his last 4 at bats in all forms of cricket.
  • McSweeney hit 19 fours in BBL|14
  • Shaheen Shah Afridi has 13 wickets in 6 bowling innings in Australia

Melbourne Renegades Form

BBL|14 was another disappointing year for the Renegades, finishing the series with just 4 wins and 6 losses.

The ‘Gades made a big swing in the offseason, bringing in one of the Big Bash League’s all-time bowlers in Jason Behrendorff from Perth and doubling down on their quicks with the signing of newly-capped Aussie Brendan Doggett, however his involvement will be limited.

Fresh off a BBL title with the Hurricanes, Caleb Jewel will spearhead the top-order for the Renegades in an attempt to fix the poor batting that haunted Melbourne’s season in BBL|14. NZ wicket keeper Tim Seifert topped the Renegades run tally with 200, ranked 19th in the BBL. The ‘Gades will want more from Jake Fraser-McGurk in BBL|15 with the young talent unable to fire consistently for the team last season.

Brisbane Heat Form

The Heat were unable to defend their BBL|13 title , having a treacherous follow-up season finishing second last with just 3 wins, 6 losses and a no.result.

The depth of the Brisbane bowling attack was under question in BBL|14 and they made an early move to rectify that by bringing in Pakistan quick Shaheen Shah Afridi to go tandem with Xavier Bartlett and Spencer Johnson. The loss of Mitch Swepson to the Stars will hurt, however the stacked quicks should do plenty of damage for Brisbane this season.

The batting order for Brisbane is still as dangerous as any with Matt Renshaw, Nathan McSweeney and Colin Munro as bigger hitters as any in the BBL. Throw Max Bryant and his 1500+ BBL runs into that mix and the fireworks are once again expected to explode when the Heat are at bat.
