The return of Mitch Marsh to Perth in the BBL will be enough to lift the Scorchers to a win in the opener of the 15th edition of the Big Bash League, in front a huge crowd in the West.

Aussie T20I captain Mitch Marsh will see a full season for the Scorchers and it is set to be a monster with many tipping the legend to top the runs list this season. With the expectation of the whole state on his shoulders, Marsh won’t disappoint, getting off to a cracking start with a solid knock in the opening innings, going over his 25.5 run total. 

Runs are expected to flow in the Perth opener, with both teams donning very powerful batting orders. The inclusion of Pakistan’s Babar Azam to the Sixers is set to ignite their run scoring throughout the whole campaign, so a whole heap of runs are predicted from two sides who already scored at the top end of the averages in BBL|14.

Ben Dwarshuis has been a consistent wicket taker for the Sixers over the last two seasons topping the wicket taking for Sydney, it will be another strong BBL campaign for the Australian medium fast bowler and he will claim a couple of wickets in the first match of the season.

A mid-season collapse after the New Year with the Scorchers dropping 4 of their last 5 games in the series cost them a shot at the final, missing out on the BBL|14 Playoffs by a single win in fifth place.  After such a dominant run, last season was a disappointment for the Scorchers organisation that has been in the mix for in the final stages over the last 5 seasons.. 

The offseason was cruel and kind for Perth, with the biggest lock being the Australian T20I captain Mitch Marsh, who will see the most Big Bash action in years after retiring from test cricket this year. Jhye Richardson, Lance Morris, Matt Kelly and teenage sensation Mahli Beardman have all locked themselves in for the future in Perth, however, a substantial loss of veteran Jason Behrendorff will give the Scorchers pace attack a new look.

It was close but no cigar for the Sydney Sixers in BBL|14 looking certain to face the Hurricanes in the final after a strong round-robin stage. However, the Sixers struck out in the Finals going down to the ‘Canes in The Qualifier, followed by a tough derby loss to the Thunder in The Challenger.

Pakistan’s Babar Azam was one of the biggest offseason signing of the entire BBL, boosting the top-end of the batting order for the Sixers, who are set to have a real crack at the title again in BBL|15. The rest of the Sixers core is still around for at least another year with the only losses being Jackson Bird, who has moved back to Tasmania and James Vince who will not cameo for Sydney. 

Azam’s addition is vital for the Sixers with the Pakistan international available for the entire series and finals, unlike Vince and Steve Smith who lifted the batting performance of the Sixers when they were available. Josh Phillipe, Jordan Silk and captain Moises Henriques will once again be the core of the runs for a deep Sixers side.
