Sportsbet Race Previews Handicap Tips (Race 3)
Morphettville Value Bet - Race 3 No. 2 Guru Warrior
A lightly raced gelding from a strong family, Guru Warrior is by a pedigree that includes three-time Group 1 winner Gold Guru and half-brother Gamblin' Guru, a three-time Stakes winner.
He rises sharply to 1950m after two 1400m runs to open the campaign, but that looks a positive given he has no winning form below this trip and broke his maiden over 2000m at the end of his first preparation.
His second campaign was excellent, culminating in four consecutive wins last spring, including two victories on the Morphettville Parks circuit.
There was plenty of merit in his August 1 return when he chased strongly after travelling wide, before being aggressively placed in the Listed Leon Macdonald Stakes three weeks later and facing a huge task without many favours.
Back in grade third-up, with Jason Holder returning after partnering him throughout that winning streak last preparation, Guru Warrior looks capable of producing a sharp improvement.
Quayclean Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Morphettville Best Bet - Race 4 No. 4 Nicerine
Still lightly raced and learning his craft, Nicerine gets the benefit of Noel Callow for this Adelaide assignment as the Gelagotis yard crosses the border with the son of Nicconi.
The journey away may help bring him on mentally, and an interstate trip is an old tried-and-true method of developing a horse who is still learning the caper.
He was green on debut but still proved too classy before being spelled after a disappointing Cranbourne run, then returned at Sale on July 9 and was the pick of the on-speed runners when narrowly beaten late by Untapped, who is no slouch.
Nicerine was then a beaten favourite at Bendigo second-up, tiring late in a three-length defeat, although there were excuses with post-race signs of colic reported.
The stable has elected to scratch from a Benchmark 62 at Mornington on Friday, and he could prove too classy for a limited field of sprinters via this 0-66 dash.

Morphettville Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 11 Divergent
Noel Callow is still building into his new South Australian stint after a lengthy break, but he has four rides for the Stokes yard on Saturday and Divergent looks one of the stronger chances.
Callow was aboard for her Murray Bridge breakthrough on August 12, when she scored over 1200m on a Heavy 8 surface.
She was then specked in the market for a metropolitan Benchmark 64 on the Parks circuit on August 22, where she drifted back before finishing strongly for fourth-of-12 over 1250m.
Her closing work was particularly good, recording the fastest final 200m of the race and the fifth-fastest final 200m of the entire meeting.
This looks a touch easier overall and, although she has a wide barrier to overcome, Divergent has shown enough tactical versatility to settle closer when required, while the extra 150m should suit off her latest effort.

Morphettville Roughie - Race 7 No. 6 Big Sue
Big Sue continues to race well and has produced a string of competitive efforts throughout this preparation.
The veteran improved off a solid Murray Bridge return to win over 1250m on the Morphettville Parks circuit second-up on July 18, before finishing fourth-of-10 when stepping up in distance and class on August 1.
He again performed well over 1400m on August 15 despite being completely unsuited by a slowly run race, getting back before producing the fastest final 200m of the contest.
A wide draw contributed to a colder ride last time, but from a much better gate here there is scope for a more positive approach while carrying 1kg less.
This race is not significantly harder and, with Big Sue going well enough to be competitive, the double-figure quote makes him an appealing roughie.
